ESL CHIP
 

hi all
im thinking of getting a esl chip but im not sure where to get one and how much it will be can anyone shed some light on this for me please?

Do you know which ecu is best suited for the ESL CHIP?
I have a w6 which is the original for the car and a v7 which is in now
The car is a 93/94 wrx import with a new ej25 transplant

If its an ESL chip that you want then I'd speak with Andy first.

I wouldn't like to say as my chip was for an EJ20. I used the Z5, but only because it had the adapter already installed. There are others that have the adapter, there is a recent thread with them all listed. Scott T will know, infact I sure it was his post before that confirmed all the codes..

Like Dan has said speak to the mapper first.
You will need a ecu with the same amount of plugs as your original(obviously).
Then you need decide if your going to get one with a adaptor built in or solder the ecu daugther board on to it.
Once you cut the J1 link the car runs off the map installed on the scoobyecu anyway.
I did read on a thread some time ago that a wagon ecu doesn't take to a scooby chip very well, mine runs ok though.
I believe the ecu that have the built in adaptor are V7, 6D, 7D & 7K.

i have a v7 and a w6 both have the extra chip socket in just wonderd which would be better for the job

Only difference is the v7 had a socket fitted from the factory, and the w6 has had one added at a later date by whoever. Once the J1 link has been cut the ecu reads the map on the chip anyway, so it will not make any difference which board you use.

Find out which one is worth the most when sold and use the other one.
I would think the V7 is worth more.

I tried the 7D (UK spec ECU) originally in a JDM WRX and it gave a fault code upon reset's. Throttle Switch. JDM WRX's don't have a Throttle Switch fitted, thus explaining the fault code. This bugged me so I decided to use the Z5 that I had.

The fault code is a red herring.... the UK ECU logs the same code when you fit the Prodrive chip, which uses Z4 code and base maps.

Yeah agreed. It just bugged me so decided to use the Z5.
