BUT....

If it was a convoy and that humvee was leader, the consequences of getting stuck / stopping in a place like that is very bad.

Sitting duck comes to mind.

Good point, well made :thumb: .

fcuk em! :D

I completely understand why they're behaving like that. However it's quite shocking viewing sitting here in leafy Berkshire!

Cheers Flightman ( I was too lazy to "google" it myself ! ;) ).

150bhp - what, and 1500 ft/lb of torque ? :wonder:

It's not as heavy as I would have expected - sounds about the same as a Range Rover ? And the RR won't protect the occupants from small arms fire !

richs2891 27 January 2007 12:36 PM

I guess they where in convoy as they where giving plenty on the horn to get people out of the way, and the fact that they quite happily crossed to the wrong side of the road and carried on.
Impressed how they did the same to the bus at the cars !

Completely agree, but couldnt be @rsed to type it.

However, in the "battle for hearts and minds" this doesnt really help does it? Imagine if that was the UK, and those forces had come to free us from New Labour? I can't see too many Snetters applauding the US forces when its THEIR pride and joy being rear ended by a Humvee!

Chip Sengravy 27 January 2007 12:44 PM

150bhp - what, and 1500 ft/lb of torque ? :wonder:

TORQUE FORMULAS T =HP x 5252
N
WhereT = Torque (LbFt)
HP = Horsepower
N = Speed (rpm)

150 x 5252 / 3600.

218 ftlb @ 3600 RPM. couldn't pull the skin off a rice pudding.

at a more realistic peak torque of say 1800 RPM, its twice that. Not bad for an N/A diesel ?

Ok, think that means a Humvee is slow.

Want to move on to calculus now ?

Fuzz 27 January 2007 12:56 PM

I think hearts and minds go out the window in situations like those.

The media should be kept out of war zones and let em do their job... whatever it takes.

"This is a really cool video of a Humvee driving through Iraqi traffic. In order to avoid insurgent attacks they cant stop or slow down, even if that requires some improvised driving"

QUOTED DIRECTLY FROM THE PAGE YOU IGNORANT TWITS.

whats more important, winning hearts and minds, or staying alive, and saving the person you just bumped into on the road from the bomb that was ment for you, and hits the family of 5....lets think before we type here....

i know it was a nice opportunity to bash americans, but i dont see any vids of Brits in land rovers in BASRA.... and ive seen them drive(they are narrower, and can get away with more "evasive" maneuvers...:thumb:

check out some of the "Aegis" boys videos. graffic coverage of cars been shot at and people been murdered everyday. Remember that the US army is smaller than the "PSG" (Private security groups) working there. The abuse and killings caried out on a daily basis would shock you.

Yes I can understand the manner in which the driver had to drive. But a major part of it is fun. Dont tell me I am wrong. Unless you can prove you have been there and worked in the security field. The Yanks are out of control. Ive seen a near fire fight start because some Yanks felt they could just shoot up some cars for fun (This means killing women and kids and isnt part of any security risk) The English and others got a bit pissed and a "situation' happened that involded a few getting sent home.

CHRIS_D 27 January 2007 06:45 PM

IIRC from when i was out there, the humvees have signs on the back stating 'do not come within 50 feet or we will shoot' (in both English & Arabic)

Shockingly, this is taken very literally and inlcudes British Forces/NATO allies too.

Seamaster 27 January 2007 06:54 PM

Chris

the yanks are a bunch of tossers. they shoot so many civilians dead every day. Ive seen it many times. No reason ,just brain dead troops or Security forces enjoying their time.
