Lol believe it or not, that seems to look about right :(

Dont take this the wrong way, but you bought the car without getting prior insurance quotes

nah there will be somewhere that will take him on, albeit at a ridiculous price.

id like to ask the guy in question though, why has he bought a scoob at 17? i admit, ive had 3 scoobs and ive been driving less than a year, but im not far from 23 and was lucky to fall into the second age bracket for insurers (or at least mine)...

You'd have to register it in your name to insure it in your name anyway mate, if your brother still have it insured he would have to end that policy as you can't have 2 insurance co's insuring the same vehicle.

My advise would be get your self a small engine car, insure it in your name and build some no claims discount up.....don't run before you can walk.

If i was an insurer and you told me you had two thousand five hundred grand  to get insured on a car i would have booked a holiday, deposit on a 6 bed house and booked a test drive online with a rolls dealer before the end of the phone call....:lol1:

In all seriousness tho, there is a price for everything. Im just not sure £2500 :) will cover a 17 year old on that car. One of my cousins recently got insured on his first car (corsa) and im sure that was near the £2000 mark

You may need to keep saving for a while....

good man, just build up a few no claims and then go for it, doesnt stop you learning loads about them in the meantime, maybe joining your local club, then when the time comes you know exactly what to go for.

Good luck :thumb:

Tidgy 27 January 2007 09:22 PM

you will find insurance, but your gonna be talking high 4 or maybe 5 figures at 17.

i got my first scoob after 4 years, and after three months it looked like this.

Some companies wanted to charge me £2500 for '02 STI, FC and I'm 28 with a clean licence! (make me happy? they made me laugh.... ).

So, your chances of getting a semi-sensible quote?!?

skans789 28 January 2007 07:22 PM

Sorry to relieve myself on your bonfire, but you must not do this!!! If you are insured on someone's policy as a second driver, when in point of fact, you are the main driver, it will invalidate your insurance. They will smell a rat and refuse to pay up!

The preimums are high at your age for a reason. TBH mate you're simply too young for a turbo scooby.

My advice. Get a 1.1 Fiesta and spend the money you'll save on beer and women!!! :thumb: Don't turn into an old fart like us before your time!!! :lol1:

:luxhello:

exact thing happened to me when i was 17 on an astra

got a letter saying "you are no longer insured, please contact us for a quote"

promptly went from £300 FC for 3 drivers to £1800 TPF&T just for me :eek2:

read the thread, its his brothers ;)

weslad 01 February 2007 03:26 PM

you should find out how much a impreza sport would be with all the bits fitted to make it look like a turbo , still 4 wheel drive and would look the part ! ! if you did get insured now on a turbo you would easily be talking 5000 + , insurance has got up a hell of a lot in the last few years , as has the age limit before prices get silly , i remember many moons ago looking forward to the day i hit 25 because people seemed to able to insure anything at that age reasonably but it seems now that that age is more like 30........lol

IMHO creating a sheep in wolfs clothing is seriously uncool! :nono: It will also cost you shedloads, which you'll resent as it will still be a slow car pretending to be a quick one and you'll not being able to afford the beer and birds to compensate! :norty:

Also, don't forget that making a sport look like a turbo will increase your insurance premium significantly too (as the car will be more attractive to theives)!

You'll get much more kudos by driving a car that makes no pretence at being fast, but has a couple of nice young ladies in it!! :thumb:

Take my word for it mate, "pay your dues" in run-around and come back to performance motoring when you have a few years NCB. :thumb:
