I've got a couple of stone chips on my MY99 uk car.

From previous posts, people haven't been happy with paint from the dealers!

Can anyone suggest which one's are better?

The car is Royal Silver, if that helps.

Thanks
Andy

Andy,

I have some official Subrau Royal Silver touch-up paint. The colour match is good but it's far too thick. What you need to do is thin it first and then apply many coats.

If you want to see the quality of my efforts, you'll find some photos here:

Andy you should see my car after the trip to PS shootout! It looks sandblasted.

I've got the same problem now and have tried the dealer paint which ain't good. I was thinking about car plan colour match polish type stuff or those lipstick thingys. As a last resort may have to try Chips-Away people as I've tried all the other paint sticks and haven't had good results.

Any suggestions, good 'BBS' people?

Dippy, Sorry to see the piccies of your car, as long as you are ok, that's really the most important thing!

I've noticed that Halfords don't supply touch up paint for Subaru's, but one of the colours they have must be the same.

Anybody have any ideas whether a certain F*rd, V*lkswagen, etc, is the same??

While we're at it, although I don't worry about stone chips (Royal Silver is almost the same colour as primer), I have a chip that is through to the metal and has got some surface rust on it. It's only a pinhead-size, but what should I do about it? I don't want to try and fix it and make it look worse...

I know you said you don't like the dealer colours, but Cheam Motors use a third party company to mix paints to order. I have an aerosol of DBM which is a perfect match. Large can cost me about £12 I think. Might be worth speaking to Jim Childs.

Carl,
Ask Mark (WoW) to send you his stone chip guide. A useful doc that gives the low down on the proper way to deal with such a chip...
