Blubs,
Are you sure that you're not getting you height muddled with you width? http://bbs.scoobynet.co.uk/wink.gif

Are you the parent of aforementioned car - 'cos only a mother could love such ugly duckling looks - or is it affinity?
LOL
Mike "tongue firmly in cheek" R
PS. You might actually turn up to an SIDC meet one day! http://bbs.scoobynet.co.uk/tongue.gif

Blubs
It's a wind up, Yes?

No! Then the services that you urgently require are available at the local eye hospital. Alternatively post a request for a recommended optician.

The only only saving grace is you called the right colour, that makes the ugliest ducking cute. Don't do anything till you drive it:
Soft, Sluggish and Seats equally lacking. IMO

Agree with the comments about the car at Donnington. After market urgently needed!

Missing Details 14 November 2000 12:57 AM

There ssems to be several new Scoobs at various dealers now, but Sorry Blubs - have to agree with Chuckster - in the flesh the new car is still uglier than an ugly thing.
Think back - how many Ford Scorpio's and Toyota Corolla's did they sell - I rest my case !!

RaymondH 14 November 2000 12:58 AM

Blubs,

What's a demi-john? What use is half a john to anybody? How do you know what a wagon load of them sounds like? Questions, questions http://bbs.scoobynet.co.uk/confused.gif

Raymond (trying to expand his knowledge)

JohnPrescott 14 November 2000 12:58 AM

demi-Johns

Someone mention my name, Blubs if its a nice interior you want, your moms bedroom aint to bad http://bbs.scoobynet.co.uk/wink.gif

blubs 14 November 2000 10:41 AM

Ok, I've been guilty of lambasting the new Scoob for it's goggly eyed front and slab ass, but my good friend Geezer informed me that the local dealer had a new Turbo in the showroom, so on Sunday I goes to take a peek.

Basically the car, IMHO, looks brilliant in the flesh. Much more aggressive especially from a rear three quarter view when the front arches really give it a purposeful look. The front on view is not as cross-eyes as photo's would have you believe. This one was in red mica and the colour did more for this model than the previous one.

The interior (as we know) IS a vast improvement and you sit lower in the car, which is better for me as I'm over 6' tall.

They have the price set at £21,745 (including the extra for metallic paint).

A couple of points from the dealer, which I hope are correct.

He states the bucket seats will not be available in this country until June next year. They also will not support the new Side Impact Protection System that the new style seats have been designed for. (They are actually not too bad but a bit soft on a long journey methinks.)

The car also has a proper central seat belt in the back aswell as an armrest, (I didn't know this).

I have enquired about the availability of a WR Blue Mica with gold wheels and they are going to let me know. However, I have said 'no test drive', 'no sale'.

Sorry if some of you already know these details, but I feel pictures of the new car did not do it justice. This is just my opinion though!!

*pah* They had one sitting around Donington all day Sunday looking as ugly as an ugly thing. Want a comfy interior? Buy an Audi.
I'll stick with my MY98ish.

Chuck I agree

Saw it in the flesh, bobbins I thought at First, and Bobbins I think now. The only Pics that got me goey were the Autoexpress full monty STi pics, uuuurrrrrhhrhrhrhrh

blubs 14 November 2000 11:38 AM

Chuckster,

Comfy interior was a comment in passing, It's not my no.1 priority for buying. I've got a MY99 Turbo now and apart from excellent seats, the interior is made from crepe paper and rattles like a wagon full of demi-johns.

Mind you, it's an opinion only. (But you two smell).

My second car is a 97 Escort 1.6L. That makes current scoob interior seem plush.
Blubs, he who smelt it dealt it http://bbs.scoobynet.co.uk/tongue.gif http://bbs.scoobynet.co.uk/wink.gif
Cheers,
Chuck

Obviously its each to their own but I saw the ugly duckling at the motor show and at Donno and she ain't turned into a swan yet in my eyes.
Doesn't seem to be many people ordering one yet either...interesting to see how well they do/don't sell.

Geezer 14 November 2000 01:09 PM

Scorpions, not many, Corollas, plenty!

It seems to me that many members of this BBS are going the same way as the RS boys. You cling onto your cars so dearly that your vision is clouded about more modern machinery. Admittedly, the 'old' Impreza is still a fairly up to date machine, but its design is firmly rooted back in the early '90s. The current (and subsequent) models will no doubtedly surpass in all areas execpt looks, but that is subjective to say the least.

If you look at an Impreza GL, it's as ugly as sin, but stick a few spoilers on it, 16 inch wheels, and hey presto!, it's the sexiest looking machine this side of Modena.

It's true what they say, you become your parents. Our spiritual parents are the RS boys, and they are stuck in a late '80s timewarp, (indeed, Mr Rainbird has even kept an '80s hairstyle http://bbs.scoobynet.co.uk/wink.gif ) fawning over their so called supercars. How the next generation will mock and scorn us for the same reason with the 95-00 Scoob.

Just IMO, of course http://bbs.scoobynet.co.uk/smile.gif

Now Then,

Mike R,

Listen to Brad Pitt himself !! http://bbs.scoobynet.co.uk/wink.gif
Yup, guilty of non attendance so far, but I promise to make an appearance soon seeing as you are so desperate to fawn at my feet http://bbs.scoobynet.co.uk/cool.gif How about a run around some big-boy roads in North Wales?

Banshi,

That's why I've said no drive, no deal. I've seen quite a few less than favourable reports regarding the car's on road ability, (or lack of).

Raymond H,

Funny jug-thing with an eye loop on the top that you make wine in....................oh, never mind http://bbs.scoobynet.co.uk/wink.gif

2Jags,

You are many things lard-ass, but a demi-john is not one of them. Perhaps a multi-john (all rolled into one) http://bbs.scoobynet.co.uk/cool.gif

Geezer,
Stop using big words baldy!! But thanx for sticking up fer us. Does this mean we are an item now?

Ok, so I'm in the minority here. The difference is, I'm so gorgeous that I don't need a smart car to pull the birds http://bbs.scoobynet.co.uk/wink.gif

In fact, just the other day I.........................coat etc.

Maxwell Straker 14 November 2000 02:48 PM

I think, not that anyone cares what I think, but I think the new car is pretty tasty. I too reserved my judgement to seeing it in the flesh but was mightily impressed at the motor show.

For those that don't like the look, the interior is light years away from the current cardboard city style, the driving position is much improved as well. These are the things that are important. If its slower to 60 by 0.2 second how many of us are really going to notice??????. The other point is that for 6 months of the year you get in your car in the dark and get out of it in the dark, when you are in it you cannot see the outside, whats the problem??

Its time to embrace change.......believe me, when you see Burnsie on the Monte with his fire breathing monster you will want the look-a-like.

Blubs, can I have your children.

2 Jags - I'm with you on the Demijohn thing, I didn't even know Mrs Willis had re-married http://bbs.scoobynet.co.uk/smile.gif http://bbs.scoobynet.co.uk/smile.gif

banshi 14 November 2000 05:56 PM

Geezer

There goes a marketing mans dream, sell you a cr@p product. Then charge a fortune to add bits before you dare to drive it to the pub in daylight.

Oh, don't get anachronistic and start me rambling about automotive genealogy. I'll have to take you back to sliding windows, pull string door handles and Mini Coopers http://bbs.scoobynet.co.uk/wink.gif

Geezer 14 November 2000 08:45 PM

Banshi,
You have misconstrued what I said. I don;t care what the car looks like, I don't think the current Impreza is a good looking car. I bought it because of its ability. The new one is by all accounts more able (if a little less raw), so when I come to sell mine, I may well plump for the new type.

My comment about sticking spoilers etc. on is to highlight just how blinkered some peoples views are on a car that is essentially ugly!

Geezer
