The local press are running a story that the latest Leica XV2 speed camera used in Europe has been approved for use in the UK
It is a highly portable unit which takes a picture of the driver and car reg going towards it by video camera, detection is by carbon dioxide infra-red lazer, two are being deployed in Devon and Cornwall. They say that radar detectors are useless against these, (obviously) but does anyone know if laser detectors / jammers (illegal) are any good. I understand that the lazer works out the vehicle speed and takes the picture in 0.01 seconds therefore making detection of it by the driver a waste of time. |
Ive heard that a 'sidewinder' misile works well against these! :D
The only down side is that they cost 2 million squid to buy ;) What a bummer!! it seems soon that the only way of getting any fun out of a performance car will be track days! Still they have'nt criminalised excellerating from 0 to the speed limit as quickly as possible (YET)! |
I suspect a laser jammer will defeat it. They do every other type of laser speed trap.

I thought sidewinder missiles are use heat detection, named after the sidewinder snake that homes in on it's prey at night using the body heat of it's prey.
|
Yep your right! but the camera operator is warm blooded :D or are they???? LOL
|
Steve001, They may not have crinalised 0 to speed limit as fast as pos, but the police still pull people for aggressive acceleration. DUH. They won't like me then. :D:D P. |
