Whilst driving around the lanes of suffolk at the weekend, it seemed to me that the suspension on my UK MY95 didn't feel quite as good as it used too. I can't really describe it but it now feels quite soft. Mine is now coming up for six years old and sixty thousand miles. What is the life expectancy of dampers/bushes etc. on a UK impreza ? How can I test if they are knackered ?

What can I do (without complete Leda adjustable setup...) to make it feel better.

Replace bushes ?
Replace Dampers with std. subaru items ?
Replace dampers with aftermarket jobs e.g. Eibach, Spax etc

Any ideas on Cost/Effectiveness of the above. I'm not after Type R like suspension just a reasonable increase in feel without going rock hard ?

Most cost effective improvement would be to find someone who is upgrading a late model Impreza to Leda/Prodrive units and make an offer for their used kit.

This kind of thing pops up occasionally in the Private section or you could post in the Wanted area.

Aftermarket dampers are expensive. Upgrading springs and or bushes with tired dampers is not a good idea.

All the best

I would love some info on this as where I live I have no choice but to drive over speedbumps. I am certain that driving over them everyday (very slowly I might add, much to the annoyance of the people behind) isn't doing my suspension any good whatsoever.

Luckily enough I am moving at the end of the month so I will never have to go over them again but I was wondering how 7 months of this will have effected my car.

Robksi - Do you do no work !

Unfortunately I have a prior engagement in London tonight so can't make Scole. (+ Snowballs chance in Hell of Anglia railways getting a train from London to Ipswich in under two and a half hours means I would be rather late - mind you I'm used to that now....)
