Being 'Ex-Directory' for Domain Registration

Hopefully someone can help.

Someone I know has a domain registered (nothing dodgy) but doesn't necessarily want to show up on 'whois' type searches.

Is there a way to be 'ex-directory'? Just done a search and I don't think they'll be too happy to see their name, address, phone number and email listed.

Any ideas?

Cheers,

Ru'

Yes there is some box or something you tick so the ownership details remain secret / unlisted.

I spoke to my registrar (Titan) who amended mine with their own address instead.

On .co.uk domains there should be an option to 'opt out' only available if you are a sole trader/individual I think...

I opted out with my domain. It just shows my name, but no address (says address withheld or similar) on a lookup.

That's correct. I also have a couple of clients who need to do the same thing for various reasons and they sometimes use the registered owner's name as a brother or sister in law etc. as well if you wanted even more privacy....

I think there's a company called 'domains by proxy' (or similar) who provide exactly this service - they register the domain on your behalf, so a whois search returns their details and not yours. Try a Google search...

Thanks very much for the info, I'll pass it on.
