Magnetic field detection?

Are there any miniature devices to detect magnetic fields without using another magnet?

Eg. want to detect a magnet embedded into a wall.

Use a Hall Effect Switch Ray

How sensors work - HART Protocol

.

No, but there is a similar device that creeps up your rectum and then devours you vital organs.

I'm sending one over..... :hjtwofing

Good thinking Pete.

Can these Hall Effect Switches work whilst in motion and can these be bought off the shelf?

Best I found after I did the post was a Magnetometer and they are huge.

As you very well know space is impotant when designing :)

Speed/Motion detection??

Power Components of Midwest

Look through RS Compts and see whats available - try and get a sample to test!

Cool.

My probation period is looking safer by the day :D

I think this is gonna be the component to do the job. As you sai I just need a sample :D

Do you know any electronic/mechanical companies or contract engineers

You'll be safe as long as you have a Weapons Designer on your side! ;)

You may not have got my last bit of my posted.

Do a search and find a company in your area - tell them that you are specifying components for a big project and think their components will be ideal, could they spare a sample.

It works for me, they cannot be too helpful - they know that if I name them on the Parts List they can then claim that they supply the UKs Number 1 Nuclear Defence company with parts ........... not a bad talking point for their next client!! ;)

Ray_li 19 January 2007 12:06 AM

Don't think I'll have that much pulling power but they could be claiming they supply to the worlds largest c***** manufacture and the 4th or 6th richest man in America :D

unclebuck 19 January 2007 12:08 AM

It works for me, they cannot be too helpful - why, at my local Tandy's they are so keen to get rid that they will agree to anything... "give me five of those resistors at only 10p each" I command - and they agree, just like that. It's right proper I tell thee.....
:)

A compass. :)

not the answer I was looking for but you're correct :D altho a compass does have a magnet ;)

Some iron filings in a little plastic bag would work, too. :D

Elmer Fudpucker 19 January 2007 12:36 AM

You need a Gaussmeter:)

Guassmeter/Magnetometer are massive. Unless you can point me in the direction of one that's smaller than a 9V battery :thumb:

Leslie 19 January 2007 01:19 PM

Connect a coil to a sensitive galvanometer and move it around in the area you want to check. You would have to calibrate it to the Earth's magnetic field first of course.

I was going to suggest a compass, but realised it was another magnet !

Try Farnell HONEYWELL SS40A (1082268)

3 leg device at 85p each :)

cool. :thumb: and cheap

RichWalk 19 January 2007 04:40 PM

Ray, use an earthworm, if you glue it to a stick near its middle it moves toward any slight magnetic pulse.

HTH:thumb:

Ray_li 19 January 2007 04:41 PM

:D

not a bad idea.

Its a stupid idea
