NEWAGE sti/wrx steering wheels..straight swop?

I hate the steering wheel in my bug wrx, im assuming the steering wheels are a straight swop, would just like it confirmed before i go searching for one :)

Also how hard are they to swop over if it is possible

Cheers

i think it should be a straight swop but not 100% sure was thinkin about gettin 1 myself at least with a sti 1 u still get a airbag :)

swisstonihasher 18 January 2007 01:19 PM

Depends, I had Sti9 fitted to mine, but was from jap car and the connector was different. If get uk sti newage, should be perfect fit. Not hard to fit also.

st3v3 18 January 2007 07:11 PM

are the Sti's smaller then ??
I feel my WRX steering wheel is way way to big!

cookstar 18 January 2007 07:21 PM

yes they are smaller, also much nice design :)

cookstar 19 January 2007 05:33 PM

Has anyone dont his, or can anyone just confirm it doabe before i part with any cash :D

swisstonihasher 19 January 2007 07:07 PM

Go for it! The leather wheel on mine is mint and even thought the electrical connectors had to be changed, wasn't bad job - must be done properly though with soldering iron etc (if you need to do this bit).:thumb:

oh fook, sounds like its beyond me, soldering electrical items, near airbags is not my thing

Have you got an email address for him, or some way i can contact him.

Didnt know it was gonna involve looms etc, i was hoping it was bolt off bolt on :(

I will probably put it on backwards knowing me

You need the STi loom and spinner as the stock WRX items are different...there's no soldering as the plugs are the same :D

Do a member seach on Butty or Nickadams :D butty posts on bugeye stuff quite a bit so he crops up quite often. I can't lay may hands on their e-mail at the moment

Cheers

Strange that as guy from rally specialists had to solder wires on mine - it was from jap car though...not sure difference maybe.

I put a brand new Sti steering wheel onto my 1998 Sti Type Ra and it fitted straight on, a mechanic friend of mine fitted the airbag side of it he didnt need anything extra as far as i know as it only took him about 20mins, the horn fitted straight on. The airbag light dont come on, unless the b*****d took the bulb out hee hee!

I've only done STi wheel swaps on bug eye and blob eye cars.
Classics do need some sort of rewiring for the loom and there's a few threads in the Interior section.
Swapping STi wheels into EU cars is simple (45 minutes), providing you have the STi wiring loom supplied at the same time.
I'm not sure about differences with JDM looms though.

Anybody know the diameter and rim width on the STi wheel versus a WRX wheel? I've got an 05 model year WRX that's supposed to have a smaller wheel than previous models, but it's still too big for me (though I did come over from a Puma, that had a tea plate sized wheel by comparison).

If the STi wheel is much smaller than the WRX wheel I'd be mighty tempted. Anyone know where I could get one and how much for? Apart from a Subaru dealer, who are bound to charge a fortune:(

Anyone fitted a sti 8 steering wheel to there bugeye sti 7?

I got the steering wheel, airbag and loom today, but when I went to fit it the screw holes for the loom onto the steering rack area, didnt line up!

Anyone had a similar problem, if so whats the cure?

Cheers for any help folks!

:D

Only two holes will line up. Redrill a new one about 2mm next to bottom LH one. This will give enough support.

Fitted the steering wheel tonight but whenever I put the left indicator on I cant get it to self cancel! It works fine if I use the right indicator, just not the left one!!

Can anyone tell me what I'm doing wrong?

HEEEEEEeeeeeelp

Anyone know how easy it is to get/fit a standard STI wheel (with airbag) back into a 2001 JDM STI? Is there a difference between Jap/Euro models?
