Why is my internet still slow even with 4MB download?

Right....I am using a laptop on a wireless connection.

I have checked my download speed with 2 different sources and I am getting about 3.8 - 4.0 MB (my exchange is only capable of 4.5MB so that is pretty good I think)

My signal strength is showing as "Excellent" to the router.

But pages are still loading slowly. :( :brickwall

I have just upgraded to Explorer 7, but it was the same before I upgraded, in fact I upgraded to IE7 in the hope it may have been a problem with version 6 somehow.

Are there any other settings I can check?

Could it be a problem with my wireless modem in the laptop? It is only about 1 month old so it should be up to the job. It used to be fine but just recently it has slowed down. Could it be some dodgy update has been installed?

I have emailed the technical support about the issue and they have just said that it sounds like software corruption and that I should try and use the recovery disc to try to rectify it!

Surely there can be another option to try first? I really don't want to have to start all over again (hence my other thread about getting an external HD to back-up all my stuff just in case! :D )

I have done a full virus check and nothing was found.
I have run anti-spyware software and only some cookies were found, but they have been deleted.

What do u get from the BT speedtester? a good sync speed doesnt necessarily mean you will get good download speeds, if there is another problem. So I would make sure your net connection/phone line (assume its dsl?) is fine before looking at the laptop.
