Brakes vacuum assistance?

How can I test whether or not my vacuum assistance is working? The brakes in my 95 RA are very firm to press down, but they still work very well.

if tit wasnt working you wouldnt be able to press the pedal
try pressing the brake while the engine isnt running - that'll show the difference

If you pump the brake pedal a few times with the engine OFF, then PRESS and HOLD the brake pedal down whilst starting the engine you should feel the pedal/your foot sink a further inch or two. This shows that the vacuum assistance is working:thumb: (by the way it tend sto be called servo assisted nowadays:) )

Thanks, I'll give that a go. Actually, I'm starting to get used to it and I quite like it this way as there seems to be more feel.
