Oak flooring -from Costco

I need to floor the whole of my downstairs with wood (exc kitchen which is tiled). At the usual cost of £50-60 per sm + fitting this will cost £6k+

I've just seen some real oak flooring at Costco for circa £25 per sm. Would this stuff be ok? What should I be looking out for?

Many thanks
Deep

£60 per metre?

Special Offer Wooden Floors products

£20-£35 per metre here and they are a decent supplier.

Problem is mate I'd really like to see the stuff before I order £2ks worth of hardware.

There's 25% off the Costco flooring in the latest passport book. not till 26/3/07 though. Looks like proper stuff, solid wood, very thick etc.

Deep,

Wtf are you buying ??? Gold plated wood ???

I paid £35 sq m last year for 22m fancy oak flooring with all the gubbins.

At £60 sp m that should included fitting as far as i am concerned.

my parents used it in their new kitchen and hallway, its very good quality, they had a couple of boards crack due to the fact they stretch when there down, but that was down to fitting rather than the panel.

they look and feel very very good.

Deep,

Its purchased from a company called direct flooring. Done a bit of searching & i cant find anything.

I will find out the make of the wood (swedish company) & will advise ;)

Thanks guys. I didn't notice the 25% off in the Costco passport. Any other suggestions/tips on sourcing good but not overpriced wood appreciated.

I have just had 70 sq m fitted. I got it from Howdens it was £23 sq m. The Joiners who fitted it all use it in there houses and say it's very good stuff. You need a trade account with them or know someone who does.

Thanks. Do they have some variety to choose from?

I've got the Costco oak in the hall & dining room, it is fantastic & a quality product. Go for it, you won't regret it.

We got our lounge and dining room oak from costco. Ours are the 8cm wide planks which they did before the current range. Very happy with it and it cost us £20 a pack (about 1.2 m^2) using a passport offer on at the time. It's only been down 9 months but have no complaints about it :) Laid it all myself (got the odd smally gap here and there through not having one bit fully aligned properly :( ). Took about 4 days and 5 evenings to do it (but that included pulling all the skirting boards off, laying underlay and applying glue to each plank. Worth doing if you can be arsed and want to save money on the labour :D

Deep, sent you a PM ;)

Only problem with wooden floors is dropping things. They either break or dent the floor.

Deep Singh 14 January 2007 09:27 PM

Thanks guys. With the 25% discount that works out at £27 psm for the one I like. Thats still alot cheaper than the solid wood floors at most retailers out there.

i have the costco hard wood on my downstairs and its excellent, i have seen cheaper hardwoods but the dont look as nice plus they require varnish !!!

Deep Singh 14 January 2007 10:42 PM

Thanks Steve. Just need to figure out how I'm going to get 60m2 of the stuff home in the car.....

stevebt 14 January 2007 11:48 PM

Deep Singh 15 January 2007 04:30 PM
