<creak, slam>

anyhoo...I have no idea wot it is, can someone help me out, please?

Anti lag is wher a cylinder is fired whilst the exhaust valve is open to provide exhaust gases to keep the turbo spinning whilst you are off throttle changing gear. this prevents boost dropping off so when you nail the throttle in the next gear you are still on boost.

aha!
ta, chum
...nowt to do with brakes then!!!( I read it on a brake query)

is it an ecu mod, or an additional system that comms with the ecu..or a completely separate system?

A number of after market ECU's have it built in not sure if the Ecutak remap can do it.

And it shags your turbo big-time, or we'd all have it :(

They're illegal to use on public roads because of emissions and noise anyway.

Why are they illegal? Under what regulations?

I can see there'd be a problem fitting them to a new vehicle for the above reasons. But you can legally fit an aftermarket exhust system that's louder than the new regs allow on a used car, eg PPP. So why can't you fit ALS to a used car?

For the MOT you'd just turn it off before the test and the MOT only measures car as presented so that's not a problem. Similarly for roadside emissions tests.

All academic because the short life of the turbo and exhaust on a car running a usefully aggressive ALS would be so short that you couldn't practically run it on a road car but I'm interested when I see blanket statements like "ALS are illegal".

I have had my GEMS with ALS for over two years now the turbo is still blowing strong with no sign of deteriation. Mind you if it did die I would put a nice Garrett 30 on it aswell as a load if induction bits.

There are no construction and use regs that prohibit anti lag systems AFAIK. But if you deliberately fit anything that would cause your car to fail an MOT or a roadside emissions test then technically you're doing something wrong. So that includes most decat pipes for example. Antilag is similar - if you can make it work on your road car and still pass an emissions test then good luck to you.
