smart Roadster Coupe

I'm thinking of buying one (Brabus) of these for the commute into town and back every day, anyone owned, driven, used one?

50mpg, fully auto, with cruise control when I can't be bothered, and yet still a bit of fun

Beware, many of these cars leak. Badly.

Take a look on smartmaniacs smart car clubs or thesmartclub for some of the other pitfalls.

If you get a good one then they are fun, if you get a dog, and there are plenty out there, then it`ll be a nightmare. Smart dealers aren`t very good at sorting them out.

If you`re buying used then somebody on these forums might know the car in question, there`s also a dedicated Roadster forum but I`ve forgotton the address.

I used to have one, and no it didn't leak :)

I managed 36 mpg, not 50 mpg. The ride was too hard and I ended up with back ache permanently! The steering is far too light, and it is more grip than handling these cars have to offer. But they sound nice, look good and can be used daily. Cost of parts is silly, and I spent a reasonable amount of time at the dealers with 'niggles'.

They can out brake most things - point to point on a fast b road or sweeping a road you can keep an excellent pace - but they are lacking in grunt and tuning gear is quite costly.

All in all a good experience, but wouldn't have another.

good luck in your search

P.S I did do a track day at Cadwell - it was a good track for such a car as the big powered stuff rarely got to far away, but i managed to tag along with 205 GTI's ok.
