Window Tinting:- Durability?

Both myself and my sister have been thinking about getting our windows tinted, but have a question about how well it wears i.e. is it easily scratched?, as it is only a film after all!.

One query aswell, if you were to buy a brand new £80k luxury car and have tinted windows as a optional extra, would it still be a tinting film, or are they some how made within the glass?, so what I'm getting at is, " is tinting film just the cheap way?".

As always, show off your cars with tinted windows if you please!

Thanks
Daz.

You get what you pay for:

Pentagon UK: Window Tinting, tinted car windows and security glass

£50 a window, excellent, no problems.

Darren have you thought about doing a group buy if you and your sister are interested?

I got mine done at AutoAsylum in Maidenhead - £290 for 5 windows. Had 4 of my family's cars done by them now. Excellent work - it is a film - but not your cheap Halfords stuff.

Well we've found a place that will do both our cars for a discount. Its only 5mins up the road where I live. My sis has a Focus 3dr, she's been quoted £175 for x5 windows to be done, I'm guessing It'll be similar money for my Impreza.

What degree of tint would you all recommend?

I've got film on my RB5... After 7 years the film is just starting to degrade around the pillar, where the glass touches the rubber. Happening on both sides.

swifty.....! 11 January 2007 03:32 PM

the newer tint is life time Guaranteed and when you buy a new car some have this put in the glass but is expensive

Think I went for 60% on the backs doors and 40% on the rear screen, from the outside you cannot tell the difference in the darkness but rear view visability is pretty good using the 40%.

like swifty..... says when u buy new from factory the film is made into the glass but all my cars ive had i get them tinted and as long as u dont try and scratch the film then normal use ove cleaning the windows ect is ok
