any tips for removing and fitting a bonnet alone??
My bonnet will be coming off and another will be going on sometime today.
Anyone got any tips as i'm stuck on my own and need to get it done. Helpful hints, things to look out for etc?? Thanks in advance. bongo |

bit of a sore point. Both of them died within 5 weeks of each other. Last funeral was last friday.... lol.
Anyone got any serious help??? No way of getting anyone to help.... cheers, Bongo |
Get some old cloths/sheets etc and place them on the wing byt the bonnet hinge. Undo the bolts on one side then pack it with the sheet. Move across to the other side and repeat. Will still be difficult to get off the the sheets will help stop and damage hopefully.
The Hoff:cool: |
dont choose a windy day.... also lay some fllor protecting stuff like towels down or get smoewhere close to put the bonnet after removal. remove/ disconnect all washer pipes/ nozels.
use yer neck and shoulder blade to supposrt the bonnet while using the other arm with rachet to undo the botls.suppose the botton and move round to the other side take the other 2 of......with care remove bonnet and place on towels, safe surface. Remove boonet batch if your new bonnet does not have one and fit before new one goes on. with fitting lift the bonnet so its sitting on the windscreen gutter tray, use same support method, life one side up and get one bolt it. can 2 both on same side if you have strong arms if not go round to ther side and put one bolt in, only do them by hand finger tight so had some play. once all 4 in tighten up. and refit washer nozels and piper into new bonnet. |
make a hoist?? wrap a rope around it to your garage rafters?? or a engine hoist so if u do drop it its not going anywhere,
then towels etc to protect the bodywork |
