I was in a local fuel station today and asked about the fuel shartages we are experiencing.
I was very interested to hear that there is a good reason for Shell and BP having problems getting fuel to their garages in the South.
It appears that BP have installed a new computer system that controls everything. Unfortunetely it's gone tits up and they can't even get their lorries out of the terminals.
They are sharing the depot facilities of Shell which is causing both companies to have problems getting supplies out.
Why have we not heard about this from the government or press? Just accusations that the protesters are to blame AGAIN!.
Can anyone confirm or trash this view.

Nigel

I actually work for the company that wrote the software that Shell use and seeing that I'm on call I would know if they had problem. I think someone's telling you porkys.....

It's good politics for the government to let the blame fall on the protesters again but the only reason why my local garage ran out last week was due to the moronic panic buyers.

Jack(boots) Straw and his henchmen have put the fear of God into the Jarrow convoy (now one dumper truck and a lorry, last heard queuing for Shell diesel at a garage on the A1).

It's an interesting theory, I do not know if it is correct but may have a sniff of truth about it (after all we are known for not being able to arrange a cockup in a brothel in this country) - I have to say when my local Sainsbury's ran out last week due to panic buying my first comment was, why don't they just send another bloody delivery out! Sainsbury's will be supplied by one of the biggies, chances are it will one of these two.

Knowing the amount of techies on this BBS it was probably one of them that wrote the software and was too busy farting around on Scoobynet in working hours to debug it properly http://bbs.scoobynet.co.uk/smile.gif http://bbs.scoobynet.co.uk/smile.gif http://bbs.scoobynet.co.uk/smile.gif

What shortages.

I know there have been some logistical problems because of flooding and blocking of routes over the last week, but here in MK, everything is hunky dory.

Dave T-S 11 November 2000 10:11 PM

Not outside MK it aint been.....

kurtw 11 November 2000 10:14 PM

Dave,

I know what you mean.

I was at Stanstead at the beginning of the month. All but one of the gas stations I saw on my travels had sold out.

Never mind, come to Mk mate. It's nice here.

RB170 11 November 2000 10:14 PM

We've had a bit of trouble due to people panic buying, that was Wednesday or so but other than that it's been OK in East Herts.

You're right - MK is ok - got a nice new indoor ski slope!!! http://bbs.scoobynet.co.uk/smile.gif http://bbs.scoobynet.co.uk/smile.gif

We're having probs in Devon...

Most of the garages seem to have used the shortage as an excuse to dump SUL now as well http://bbs.scoobynet.co.uk/frown.gif

At least three nearby garages have stopped doing SUL in the past 2 weeks and it looks like he local Esso might use it as an excuse as well (they are out of SUL and 4*)

Damn http://bbs.scoobynet.co.uk/frown.gif http://bbs.scoobynet.co.uk/frown.gif

PeteT 12 November 2000 10:10 AM

No sign of any shortages up here, most garages I went past yesterday seemed quieter than normal.

CharlieWhiskey 12 November 2000 11:00 AM

We did have a bit of panic buying up here - before the floods - but only at certain petrol stations.

Other petrol stations were just normal - and since the floods, and the anouncements that there wont be any blockade anyway - the situation has disappeared.

Don't know what you are all worrying about!
