cat for 97 import

Hi Guys, new to forum ...

I need a cat for my wrx sti 3 1997, i bought the car without one and need to get through my mot next month, no idea which one to get or where from:wonder: have been quoted £600?
Can anyone help me please ?

just find ur self a small MOT station and ask the guy if he can go leanent on the emmisions for extra beer money im sure they will be ok with that

I had same problem with my old STi V3 - found a local MOT station that would 'put one on' to past the test - cost around an extra £30. That was in Kent - don't know where you are?

It would help if you gave a location. There's lots of us on here with the same problem. I have a full standard exhaust for this if required.

Try taking it to someone you know, or have used them for a while, i'm sure they'l sort you out, like said offer them a can of beer :)

Get a standard centre pipe from a WRX, not STi as it's a resonator. Should pass fine. Mine always does.

GC8 05 January 2007 07:54 PM

All Classics have a resonator in the centre. The catalytic converter is in the downpipe.

Gear Head 05 January 2007 08:11 PM

Not the UK turbo's. They have a catted centre section.

Care to re-think that one? :D

thanks guys, i'm actually in york, have had the car just under a year, love it to bits, but costing me loads ! i rang some places today, all asking for about £600+ for a cat, expensive car etc...and so on.... my mot is due in four weeks and i'm no expert on car parts, i just dont want to get ripped off.

Try subaru impreza parts from scoobyworld, suppliers of high performance products for your Subaru and have a look at their sports cat downpipe. That is only £300 and won't cost you to much in performance. Then sell your decat downpipe for say £100, job done for £200. (if you fit it yourself)
That is what I plan to do when my MOT is due.

Thanks Chris
is that their ninja downpipe at £299.99 ?

Gear Head 05 January 2007 09:35 PM

yup

Soulgirl 05 January 2007 09:41 PM

Eh? I've a 96 full decat and it passes the mot. Is that because it's an import?

No it's because you can smile more sweetly than the rest if us :D

Ahhh... I knew my feminine charms would come in handy one day... the knuckle duster obviously helped :D

You said 'get a centre pipe from a WRX'. WRXs do not have a centre cat.

Kevin Groat 07 January 2007 10:34 AM

I've a decatted STi V3 - bought a standard UK model centre section with cat off here for £10 and fit it for the MOT. 20 min job to change (stainless bolts/nuts) and it passes the emissions test no problem.

You'll easy pick up one on ebay.
