japanese Car auctions in Southhampton.

Understand they are trade only. Yet mate reccons you just walk in and leave £500.00 to bid??

want to buy a 2.8 4 x4 thingy. This seems the best place to buy direct ?

yep, I think I know the one you are on about, post up with your progress as I wouldn't mind having a look myself

You can put down a £500 deposit and bid but you are supposed to be trade so don't appear to be totally oblivious to the auction rules!! I pop in on a regular basis when collecting cars from the docks but to be honest there haven't been that many 4x4's there recently.........there used to be around 300 there every sale!!
I find the one's that have been in the UK a while are cheaper plus you don't have to register / MOT / tax or pay the auction fees on top and that's after any thats before any possible mechanical problems :(
We just sold a reasonably tidy '94 2800cc for £1200..........plenty of them around!!

good point.... just buy and drive off! got my eyes on a early patrol on ebay. Even has working AC. thing is as big as a hummer !! I need to fit a large tool chest in the rear(Under the load cover) to keep expensive tools in. so it needs to be as big as possible. god only knows what the thing will do MPG wise?? Its a 4.2 turbo diesel. Also I fancy the idea of something that will scare cars out of the way !! And I can "Monster" the stereo and have some fun it it at weekends with a few mates ,some mountain bikes and the master keys to the forestry commision in wales !!

I still see some people turned away but many private punters still buy there, you don't need a VAT number / trade reference but you don't get much time to check out the mechanics of the car so i still stand my ground and recommend if you are only after the one car either import directly or buy in the UK........compare the prices as UK cars are usually that bit cheaper!!

So not really worth bothering with ??

MattN 09 January 2007 01:14 PM

nope - full of cars the Japs didn't deem good enough to buy at there own auction for the auction price, so let the english buy them to which you need to add in duty vat shipping etc ...

Seamaster 09 January 2007 09:03 PM

no.... I called them today and you pay the hammer price + the auction costs. the rest isnt included.

Some people have bought afew and registered them etc.. now on ebay and not selling well !! so might go private and wave the cash under their noses.

Cars found at docks auctions are dire! Theyre usually very low grade cars spammed up. Id expect all disbursements to have been paid too. I believe that these awful cars are shipped in slack space (for considerably less) so thatd be another opportunity to have your leg lifted.
