MY05 WRX PPP bargain price
 

Hi - this is my first post - thought I might give out some helpful info to any prospective PPP'ers and hoping for a bit of feedback on said upgrade....

Bit of background - I have a MY05 WRX saloon - got it straight out the wrapper 1 year ago - 16.5k from Macclesfield Subaru. I rang round a lot of dealers who had delivery mileage motors to see who would give me the best deal, this one won hands down. Anyway, they offered me the PPP doing for 1k fitted - bargain as RRP is 1.6k As I was maxing out to get the WRX I couldn't do it and has been annoying me since. Although I love my baby, I still couldn't let the thought of the performance figures go. I have finally got to a position to go for it, but not paying full whack if it could be done for 1k. Several dealers have give me some patter about costing them nearly 1.6k so they couldn't deal.....not giving this up I carried on....got a dealer to ring Subaru up to check if they could deal....got it for 1100 English pounds. Getting it done next week! :lol1:

So anyone planning on getting PPP done....haggle.

I know this was long winded, but I do like a story. Anyone got any views on doing the PPP on a WRX? Good or Bad(yeah right).

Do it! You'll be chuffed.

Then save up for the Prodrive springs.

And getting the geometry set right.

And then Whiteline rear arb and drop links.

I doubt I'll do anymore than the PPP on this motor. It's been many dreaming years to get to owning any Impreza but I'll wait for my STi owning days before I start going crazy (I hope). Also interested in the Forester STi (for the missus of course). Just need to win the lottery!

Well I basically drive it around Reading (no motorways), just town and twisties and get under 23mpg. I have clocked the 0-60 at 6.4secs (the one time I did it) on my mobile phone stopwatch, but will do a better couple of runs with the missus's help on the timer before I get the PPP. Sad I may be, but I like to see if cars really do what manufacturers say..and these figures are not even close. Still the best car I have ever had though!

I actually do quite a bit of work in Reading (I work for a firm who is working for the RPA on Kings Road) - haven't seen many WRXs around there to be honest - the one I did see was a silver WRX with a MAJOR exhaust that sounded like a 747.

If you really rate the PPP conversion I may see what type of price I can get it for up here in the North East - I'll have to get it passed the accountant forst mid ('er indoors!).

As stated above, ppp is only way to retain warranty on all items. This, of course, accounts for the costs (it's the added value, rather than pure material costs). The research that went into their generic map probably took more time than anyone realises, to ensure that it was safe in all situations.

I think that even retaining all the ppp items, a custom remap would release more power though. It's a case of risk vs reward.

My average fuel economy remained the same after ppp'ing, and the power delivery suits my normal driving style too (no need/point to rev the nuts off it).

Definitely worth doing on an 05 car (for the reasons given re warranty). Quicker and sounds better too! I've found a definite improvement in mpg (not that you'll get your money back!) When you get Prodrive springs fitted the car will feel as it should have been out of the box!

PM me which dealer quoted you £1100 for the PPP as i have a 04 plate WRX which i am looking at wither doing a remap with a local specialist or to keep warranty I have a Subaru extended warranty until the car turns 5) i will go for the PPP.

My 05 wrx was loads faster after ppp'ing :D, not sure about any others though.:freak3:

So, please forgive me naivety, living in the North East (Middlesbrough) just imagine I miraculously talked my wife in to believing that adding PPP to my WRX was for the good of the family, ahem, then how would I go about getting it fitted?

Do I need to take it to my local dealer and barter with them to see if they can do it for not much over £1k - or do I have to physically take it to Prodrive myself?

And does anyone have any info on whether the move from WRX to WRX PPP increase insurance? I'm with A Plan.

Mine certainly is.

A Plan (at Thatcham, NB) know about and understand PPP and are very helpful. Cost of insurance shouldn't be that much higher. Can't remember difference for me.

Prodrive don't (generally) fit it, your dealer will be more than happy to...
