Impreza Brake Sticking
 

Hi,

I have a 98 Impreza Sport and the brakes are sticking on (not binding). If you leave the car for 30 secs then they free up. It is significantly worse after applying the brakes when in reverse. My mechanic has had the car up on the ramp but can't duplicate the problem but it does it consistently on the road? The car has just had a new clutch fitted but is otherwise standard and totally reliable. I have heard of some Legacy's with this problem and there was a Subaru recall for that car but this only applied when the car was subjected to very low temps. Has anyone had any similar experiences/ideas as to what is wrong. I am thinking either defective Master Cylinder or Servo?

Have you taken the calipers off to see if they need a rebuild?

I am assuming your vehicle isn't a WRX and may have the hill holder component built into it. If these aren't adjusted correctly it may seem that you have a caliper holding.

The manual comes with a hill holder clutch. It's important to let off the clutch completely to release the hill holder. Many folks will light ride the clutch as they move in and out of parking spots or in traffic etc, but this may cause the hill holder to stay engaged

The calipers seem fine and 1 was replaced by Subaru within the past 12 months. How can I tell if I have the hillholder? It is not a WRX,:( and has a manual box so this could be the problem. Its a UK car?
