Taking Stuff For Granted

Today, I cleaned the Panel Filter, used the K&N Cleaning Kit.

Sprayed it with the cleaner, let it soak for 20 mins, then flushed it with cold tap water from the clean side, so not to push muck in.

Left it to dry before I apply the oil so I thought I'd pop out and do a few things.

Crikey no Air Filter in the box, what do I do? I know, I have kept the old paper one, popped it in and off I went.

What a difference, slugish, slower on the uptake and really a rubbish ride! As soon as the oil has dried ( I won't put it back in to soon, read the MAF problems on SN) back in it goes the sports panel filter.

You relaly do take stuff for granted till, you are reminded what you have got.

Is it a k+n panel filter?Classic or newage car :wonder:
Wouldnt of thought it would of been a massive difference, but good to know as im looking at getting one very soon :thumb:

New Age, J&R Blue Filter ( same as a K&N one).

TBO when I got back this afternoon, took out the paper filter for a look & in the middle (Air Intake side) it's full of black stuff.

Reckon I've done about 10,000 miles on the paper one before I got a cotton one. I don't think you can clean paper ones so, roll on tomorrow morning when I will put back on the cotton one.

Really made a difference for me, don't know if other SN people have had the same experience??

i don't think it will make that much of a difference to be honest

I remember Stef before Cossies vs Scoobs thought he'd give his panel filter a good dose of oil just to make sure it was in A1 condition.

He then spent the next couple of hours trying to get it all out LOL

:D

Put back in the Cotton Sports Panel Filter & took it for a blast.

Just back. Goes great, much more responsive and quicker.

I looked back on threads here and some SN members have actually tried several different Air Filtes on a rolling road and, noticed differences between them, some atually recorded over 10 BHP difference over others.

Anyway I'm happy now.

you should clean your maf when you redo the filter as well.... all that oil has got to go somewhere... the maf is a magnet

WRX Yank, thanks for the advice.

Took off the MAF this morning and, you were right, red oil everywehere!

As you say the oil has to go somewhere.

Cleaned it with K&N Filter cleaner & dried it.

Took the hose off & gave it a good wipe, also checked the Air Filter, didn't over oil it.

Good lesson & sound advice thanks once again.

Kind regards
