Okay folks, quick question for you. I contacted my insurers to get an idea on how much extra it would cost for a Scoobysport backbox & a new air filter, possibly along with a new set of wheels.

Quote came back at around £150 extra for the lot (£60 for exhaust + £90 for wheels). This seemed reasonable BUT there was the caveat that they would only replace with standard parts, not what was actually on the car.

Now the area of mods is all new to me(never had a car worthy of them before) so I may be being a bit thick (it's been known!) but is this standard practice or should I expect like for like replacement?

Any comments appreciated.

Have a lot of the insurance companies been insisting on tracker systems in addition to a Cat 1 alarm? If so - why? And what does this say about Cat1 alarms?

I just got insured with Privaledge, who wanted an approved Cat1 alarm system AND a tracker system. At first I thought that's not too bad cos their quotes were quite cheap, so I thought ok £200 for a tracker system is ok. But then found out that they only approve the expensive trackers system (which trigger automatically when the car moves rather than when the owner rings up) - which is £430 !!!

I did it anyway cos it's just a one-off payment and the monthly premium was fairly low thereafter...but bloody hell. I'm now spending £1400 smackers (including NCB protection -this added £200 apparently) on a MY93 WRX. Feck. It's worth it though, tis a lovely vehicle to own. http://bbs.scoobynet.co.uk/smile.gif

I had to have a GPS system installed; tracker was not considered good enough. I don't mind because I've got an RB5 ppp and if it ever went walkabout it's unlikely that I'll be able to replace it with the same thing.

Rum should be able to tell us why it's now necessary to get tracker etc installed. I'm guessing that it's got something to do with our beloved scooby's being top of the hit list with scum bags.
