Vauxhall Opel VXR Leading UK Tuning Specialists - Total Tuning Solutions - Courtenay Sport Limited
everything from an air filter up to fitting the turbo from the VXR. A few Z20LET's are running 290bhp - 320 lbft. |
Carn't believe you paid £10k for it unless it was super low mileage? an 04 should be around the £7-7.5 mark
Darren |
Ouch that's BIG money for a 2/3 year old Astra!!
Nice though.... |
Yes £10k seems a tad high.
Saying that Where can you get nice 04 plate ones for £7k? |
My mate bought one for seven grand, needed a couple of jobs, was a bit of a dodgy seller but it seems ok now and stands him about 8k, I went in it and thought it was quick, once rolling a match for any standard WRX, I suppose with 197 bhp and 2wd (no 4wd losses) thats about right, he has since had it remapped to 250 bhp at Courtney, he seemed a little dissapointed with it but I think he was expecting a bit too much and the benefits will take longer to appreciate, he says its quicker, he needs to drive a slow car for a bit !
|
There good cars but think you paided to much myself.
Mods wise can't go wrong with a miltek cat back exhaust, courtney pre-cat replacement, piperX panel filter, courtney FMIC new plugs and a remap. lots of fun then!!!!! Not as much fun as a scooby though |
I had one before the scoob. Very underestimated performance (will stick with a standard UK wrx), but the handling isn't great and I found fuel consumption to be on par with the scoob (22 mpg).
I kept it 9 months after getting bored very quickly. Amazing on the motorway though |
£10k............wow now thats pricey!!!!!! Hope it ultra low mileage 1 owner FVSH .....and no doubt you bought from a main dealer at that price....
|
Drove one a few months ago. Nice seats, great engine, worst gearbox I've ever used. Didn't get one as couldn't live with that **** gearbox, really did my head in.
|
cheers lads!
10 grand might seem high yes! but u dont see many around, it has 23,000 miles on like, fsh, a bought it from bristol street motors and got nowt off the asking price!
iv just turned 21 and insurance for a scoob with impossible for me, and this is only a group 15 so its not that bad, £1900 f/comp. maybes a scoob in a couple of years, eh, gradule built up. |

Problem with paying top wack for your car is when you come to sell in a year you will maybe get £6.5k for it, makes for expensive motoring. As long as you enjoy it that all the matters. |
I would have walked in with 10 grand in cash and asked for 500 off and a tank of petrol and one of them nice air fresheners. i bet he would have sang a different tune when you walked out telling him you were off to see what the garage down the road had.

£10k!!! I'd have spent a little less and gone for some English lessons first.

Dave What a miserable pair of buggers we are ;) |
I know its a scooby site, and asking about a Astra is potentially a receipe for disaster in here. But IMHO 10K for a performance 04 plate car seems good value to me. If you can get one for 7-8K then it makes an even bigger mockery of the prices of Older jap Cars. And thats coming from someone currently trying to sell a 'J' reg RX7 for 6K.
I am guessing the powerplant is the same that was in my VX220 Turbo, which was a hoot in terms of performance. Very quick and very quick at top end speeds as well. I Know the VX probably weighed in about half the weight. But say 9K for a 220-240bhp 2004 registered car, fully serviced, low miles, nice interior, good build quality, I assume great condition, half way sensible insruance and servicing seems a good proposition to me. Good luck me it mate hope you enjoy. Vauxhalls have come along way, and currently knocking spots of Ford. Nice to see other manufacturers bolting turbos and recaro's to there cars and trying to knock subaru off there pedestal. In terms of performance mods definately visit courntey motorsport. All that said get a JDM STI9 tek3. when funds and insurance allow. :D:D:D |
Totally agree with that last post. The new Corsa VXR looks the business too.

I recently converted to Vauxhall after years of VWs.
After hating them for a long time, I tested one and was pleasantly suprised. While I'm no die hard loyal Poxhall fan, I've been very pleased with the Astra and it costs peanuts to run yet goes very well. The mk4 GSI was the first Astra I actually liked! |
My buddy has a lightly modded Astra 2.0 SRI Turbo (212bhp) and people slate these compared to a scoob but as a Classic Scoob owner and having driven my mates, on a dry road anyway there would be very little in it. where as mine runs out of steam at 5500 rpm (damn those td04's) The Astra seems to have another kick at 5000rpm. for me to pull away i would have to drive like a d**k and i wont do that.
I thought they would be crap but in the dry at least they are a very capable and potent car and i was well impressed with it. miles better mpg than a Scoob as well. |
EVO couldn't shake the Vectra VXR in the dry in either an STI or EVO. Not interested in fast driving in the wet.

Good cars for the money, there's not alot else that you could buy with the same sort of performance without going for a much older vehicle. Why is your insurance so high, at 21 you shouldn't be paying anywhere near that much unless you've had an accident or something. My car is group 17 and the insurance was £920 when I was 21.
|
As above ^ ^ The Chief is talking about my brother-in-law's car. Shame you have bought this one already, he is looking at selling his car, it is black on a 02 plate.
http://homepage.ntlworld.com/gillp95...stra%20800.jpg Stats http://homepage.ntlworld.com/gillp95...0specsheet.jpg Very quick in the dry. Do not underestimate one :norty: The Mk2 GSI was one of my fav's. And still is. PM sent regarding tuning. |
I was just so disappointed at the bloody gearbox, I'd wanted to like the car so much as I've always hankered after one but it just ruined it for me :(

yes mate i have had a crash, paying £1900 with tescos is not bad because i was going to pay £1800 with 'mint' on the net, and that was not declaring the crash. |
My mates had the heated full leather which was a bonus! Felt boaty going round corners fast abit like it was sailing round them! Very nice motor apart from that...

I've drove it a few times and it is deceptivly fast - to me has a bit of an extra kick at 5k as well. |
