Apologies guys & girls as I know this has been done before but nowhere is there a definitive answer (yes/no) - there is a lot of discussion on all the search results I have found.

Currently have a standard MY99 running 205/50/16 tyres (standard)
May well buy MY01 alloys fitted with 215/45/17 tyres (standard)

Ignoring small speedo inaccuracies .....
will the new wheels/tyres cause any problems to the car (ie. rubbing/fouling etc)

Thanks

I sold two sets of MY01 WRX wheels/tyres.

One went on a Leda lowered STI5.

The other went on a standard Catalunya.

Both fitted ok, no fouling. BUT - if you decide to go this route, trial fit/road test them first.

I've just fitted a set of MY01 wheels to my MY98 without problem.

The standard MY98-00 16" wheel uses a 205/50/16 tyre with a diameter of 612mm. Most people reccommend a 17" wheel using a 215/40/17 which has a diameter of 606mm (1% less than 16").

The MY01 17" wheel uses a 215/45/17 tyre with a diameter of 626mm (2.5% greater then 16").

Using the MY01 17" with 215/45/17 tyres will cause your speedo to under-read by 2.5% and your oddometer to over-read by 2.5% (I think!).

In Japan the MY01 is fitted with the 16" wheel and the 205/50/16 tyre, so I figure Subaru aren't too concerned about small differences in tyre diameter.

Regards, Mark
(Waiting to be corrected!)

The jap ECU is different (speed limiter etc.) so there is no misreading I guess.
