Tuner pipe?

I have the ability to put a tuner pipe in my exhaust on my classic scooby, will it do any damage if I do this? The reason I ask is I'm having issues with a neighbour about starting up first thing in the morning and it is causing unwanted or needed stress to myself and my girlfriend.
Any help would be great guys

Is that just like a bung you can get for the Blitz Nur spec?
I'm guessing you have to start early in the morning.

Yes it is and it's actually my girlfriend that does but I take her to work

I don't believe it would cause any damage all you're doing is just restricting the exhaust flow out so lessening the noise and losing a few bhp.

If its easy to make, and not much hassle to fit and remove id do it as im a bit paranoid about the times i come home from work on nights and i dont particulary want to piss the locals off ..... we all have to get on with each other after all..... i fitted a resonated center section to lower the noise a bit over a straight decat system.

Paul you know what mine is like exhaust wise. It can be very loud but I heard that if you put one in it causes back pressure and screws the turbo up, is this true?

myblackwrx 22 December 2006 09:14 AM

honestly don't know.
But its like changing from a standard system to a bigger system then back again that won't damage the turbo.
I'm guessing if you make a bung/pipe as long as its not too narrow then you won't have any problems.

This is the letter I got back today, the printed part is what I sent them

The reason I need to know is that mine is now running 320 bhp and don't want to get any problems

Never heard an impreza called an 'old banger' before.
What time do you have to get up?
How noisy is it on idle?
Can you park it somewhere else because obviously the person/people in question have a serious problem with the noise and instead of speaking to you like a human s/he will damage your car or more seriously you or your girlfriend.
Or change your exhaust which unfortunately will cost you more money.

I 'like' the way s/he says for you to be civilised yet he is almost wanting a fight with you.

You don't have to idle for 2-3mins. Engine will warm up just as well with as little stress if driven at low revs off boost than it will sat at idle for a few mins. Same after a good blast, a low rev drive at 30mph off boost is as effective as sitting it at idle.

A resonating centre will help, and why not swap the back box for a scoobysport 3.5 inch exit or similar. They have excellent flow and much reduced noise compared to larger jap spec boxes.

Hope you reach a compromise - I swapped my jap style back box for the same early morning reason (and it annoyed the hell outa me on motorway).

btw - keep the letter as the tone of the reply does imply threats.
