TDO5 20G question

what is the max boost this turbo can produce to the red line

and does the manifold need to be modified to fit it?

thanks in advance

On my STI3 no modification was required except for the oil feed pipe - not sure about the max boost.

Neilo 21 December 2006 02:27 PM

1.7 :eek2: is that on the Apexi now? most i ever saw was 1.61 with the Link on a cold day.

Hope she holds together for ya mate.

Not all these turbos are the same so you have to be clear what you are comparing. Also what capacity engine is it on?
A TD05-06 20Gs on my 95 WRX Wagon 2 litre is doing 421 bhp (355 ft.lbs.) at 1.6 bar at 6,600 rpm, V-Power plus 2 mls/litre NF. Sigma ECU. The turbo has run up to 1.9 bar but there is no point as it just creates heat and less power. I doubt there is any point exceeding 1.7 bar maximum on any of these turbos and subject to the engine it may be better running quite a bit less boost.

Andy F 20g with a bit of porting.
1.66 peak on Optimax + NF = 380 x 360 @ Powerstation, or 407 x 360 @ Well Lane.
I believe the first one!

Lovely gutsy turbo that is very drivable if you keep it revving, easy with an Sti and a bit of attitude. :D
Should add this is with a stack of supporting mods (all external) and an Apexi mapped by AndyF.

The turbo itself will run to 2 bar but the engine may not like it !

With a very strong dose of octane booster on a fully optimised car I have seen 440bhp produced at 1.47bar.

One thing to be aware of is that there are a lot of TD05-20G replicas out there, I recommend making sure it has a genuine Mitsubishi part number on it before parting with your cash !

Actually it was 15% Methanol if you remember.

marklemac 23 December 2006 08:21 AM

Am running 1.77 peak on mine.

Best dyno result I've seen is 385 flywheel. Best result ever was 311 WHP.

Pulls like a train :) very nice.

Mapped by Powerstation.

Here's the 20G compressor map. It shows where it's most efficient, and where it flows most air. The two are not mutually exclusive.

Correct Harvey, I recall you were there to witness that particular 440bhp result. Methanol is an exceptionally cheap and effective octane booster.

And 15% would be considered a Strong Dose :D

Andy.F 23 December 2006 12:08 PM

Well, not really :D, not this year anyway ;)

What would one of these on a 2.5 conversion do, mapped to 1 bar to stop by pistons frying?

~300bhp

Lateral Performance 25 December 2006 11:45 AM

It will depend to some extent on what heads you have. STi heads '97 > breath quite well, and I would expect 320 >330bhp if it's all working well.

Uk heads would be lower.

Mark.

Its a type R STI my99 with uprated fuel pump plus regulator, RCM oil cooler, RCM induction, RCM superlight flywheel, ASP 3" exhaust (with or without CAT!), 2.5 STI block with standard internals. I hope to get about 330 on the standard turbo, Was looking at a TD05 20G with some 550 or 750(?)s for closer to 375-400 bhp.

doug2507 25 December 2006 07:47 PM

Andy, How did Craig Muir get on with the 20g i gave him for his HKS 2.2conversion? (AWD) He reckoned it was giving 420 running 1.3? Think he's turned it up a wee bit now though.:norty: :nono: Was going to keep for my 'built' 2.5 but decided to go for either a 06-49 or 321t. Just wander if i made the right decision for the hills!

Andy.F 26 December 2006 04:12 PM

Yes it went well Doug. Don't think he is over 400bhp though as he is still on the std 22B tmic.

Andy
