changing your scooby for a highpowered BMW thoughts

due to a nasty crash i thought i would try a 328 bmw for a bit

what a mistake, i should have got another scooby

the bm has poo traction in the wet, and if that back end steps out in the wet, it just doesnt come back like the scooby :(

handling is ok in the dry but its just not a mark on the scooby.

p.s. im comparing cars of similar age (1997)

rossi_classicwrx 19 December 2006 11:27 PM

i wouldn't consider changin a scoob for an old bmw.. I thought it would mean an m3 or m5 when i read the title. Try a newer bmw or a decent one then see what you think mate!! That will change your mind i expect!!

s80wkr 19 December 2006 11:27 PM

I contemplated a 328Ci after getting shut of my IS200

I tried one but the Legacy I saw was more impressive

Not keep on losing traction to be honest! :norty:

It tends to end up either in your arse going or the back end going.......through a hedge

Brendan Hughes 20 December 2006 09:23 AM

Mistake in the thread title, it says "highpowered".

Nat 20 December 2006 09:36 AM

I think your problem is maybe that the BMW doesn't flatter your driving/driving style as much as the scoob?

Hmm Interesting view, I find it quite amazing at how much stick you can give mine with the DSC switched on. With it off, it becomes a bit tail happier but nothing out the ordinary for a torquey 200bhp rwd car.
I suppose it depends what you are used to though - why did you desert the scooby after your "nasty crash" though?

J4CKO 20 December 2006 12:05 PM

Thats just 4wd withdrawal symptoms kicking in, embrace the lack of traction and enjoy it, my car is Front Wheel Drive and has poo traction and thats not exactly fun.

Or just drive a bit slower ?

Robbie T 20 December 2006 12:12 PM

I recently sold my MY00 turbo and bought a 97 328 coupe, yes they are more arse end happy (it is RWD  ) but it drives superbly. I do miss the power and AWD road holding of the scoob but not dissapointed in the BMW.

My advice, learn to drive (or buy a pushbike) :D

brybusa 20 December 2006 01:34 PM

Me also thinks you bought the wrong car...a 328 certainly isnt a "sports car", more of a GT.

What you need is an LSD for it , then you can have some fun.

Id also agree with Nat, my old BM will hustle but it takes commitment, especially in the wet but with the LSD its more than manageable.

J4CKO 20 December 2006 07:41 PM

Maybe its just Scoobs flatter those with no real talent, I am not saying I have any but perhaps going to a car you have to drive rather than it drive you causes some to come down to earth with a bump ??

sunflowerkiss 20 December 2006 08:15 PM

Get a 6 series, they look good!!!!:luxhello: :luxhello:

bbigman2000 20 December 2006 08:22 PM

ive owned 5 scoobs, a 328is, an E36 M3 evo, a E46 M3 manual and an E39 M5 (2001)

the 328 was a joke, there aint no power in them things, I kept it 3 weeks, as thats how long it took to sell,

M3 evo = AWESOME
M3 E46 = Awesome
M5 E39 = Miserable big barge

Stick with the scooby if you want all weather action, its 4wd that attracts me everytime hence ive now got an Rs6

JohnHamer1977 20 December 2006 08:34 PM

eh yup bbig, fancy seeing you here LOL (john manchester from MT)

lets say you found a older M3 or a buy eye Scooby...
what would you lot go for?

bbigman2000 20 December 2006 09:00 PM

heh hiya bud,

old M3 mate, eat the bug eye for breakfast.

So you are saying the RS6 is a better car to drive than an e39 M5??? Are you in insane??? E39 M5 is an absolutley amazing car, expensive to maintain, but amazing!!

i wanted to go for something a bit more refined.
But was prob expecting similar performance, (deno y the scoob had 300bhp)

My dad has the 530D and that is much better than mine, I think I was just expecting too much from it, but saying that it does have an excellent compromise of handling and comfortable.

To be honest im just being a moaner, I bought the wrong car and now I feel sorry for my self as I don’t like to drive it

im now in the process of finding another scooby :norty:

Ps. Sorry for the confusion between bigger engined bm`s a M cars

Clearly I must be as I much prefer my RS6 450bhp, 4wd all weather ballistic performance.

MUCH faster than an M5 no matter what you read on the net.

Yes the M5 is a capable car and fun for a few days but no, you cant live with it for long, and you dare not try and overtake in the wet.

And erm, I find it unlikely you are qualified to throw judgement down as you clearly have not owned either car.:nono:

Oh and the M5 is CHEAP to maintain compared to an RS6, let me assure you of that, my RS6 has had about 10k of maintainance this year.
You'll maintain a M5 for a fraction of that.

Janspeed 21 December 2006 01:43 AM

RS6? Have nearly bought one for the Mrs, though it would be second hand and from Audi Germany.

Love the car, and doubt they will make one like that again.

Scooby is Scooby, and a T25 would make me happy, except for the boot space!

Sold it in September to get an A6 Avant Tdi and an Elise for fun times. Done the combined family and fun car for a few year, but there is always a compromise, so bought one of each instead.

You login name seems to suit you when you are hidden behind a keyboard

Tripple'O G 21 December 2006 08:27 AM

I'm in the process of trying to decide wether to swap my 350bhp WRX 2001 bugeye for an E36 EVO M3 S'reg (1999?)

I've found the subaru boring now and bought myself an RSS Gtst for a bit of fun and love the RWD action.....it actually makes you feel like YOU, the driver, hit the right line and made the drive what it was.....so RWD doesn't bother me in the slightest....

bbig, do you think this would be a good move?

Tripple'O G 21 December 2006 08:48 AM

Not ALL Bugeyes :nono:

I'd wager a bet against a STANDARD bugeye

Hi mate hope your wifes getting better All the best Alan, MMmm M5 LoL

bbigman2000 21 December 2006 09:29 AM

Austen., great so you have owned an M5 im unsure even now how this leaves you qualified to slate the RS6, which is in a completley different league to the M5.

And I dont need to hide behind any keyboard, im 6ft 1 and 21 stone of muscle, and I run a company supplying bouncers to nightclubs, and im easily contactable through my profile, how is that hiding ?

Tripple OG, a 99 S M3 evo, will be a SMG gearbox wont it ? Id aoid that like the plague, but if its a manual yes definitley.

Where did i slate it?? I think they are great cars, I've driven one (not owned), they are just not as driver focused as an M5. So you have owned both? If so its your personal preferance, mine is the M5, its definetly not a Miserable big barge!! Now the A6 Avant TDi is a Miserable big barge!!!!

Do you supply spacer hoppers as well??

Tripple'O G 21 December 2006 09:44 AM

I'm not sure if it will be an SMG gearbox?
(whats and SMG? never heard of it :brickwall )

Cheers
