220bhp to 260bhp?

My brother has a 95wrx 5 door wagon with 220bhp,he would like 260bhp like the saloon of the same year. He's changed the exhaust to a decat ,does anybody know what the difference is between the two engines?

Neilo 19 December 2006 04:04 PM

ECU and the turbo i believe, didnt the wagons have a TD04 and the saloon TD05?

orbix 19 December 2006 04:06 PM

Thats correct, the wagon will be running a td04.

If he gets something like a esl chip for his ecu that should put him near to 260 ps.

ClintUK 19 December 2006 04:29 PM

With TD04 turbo, Sports cat exhaust (not quite as good as de-cat) and an Apexi ECU mapped on my set up I got 260bhp. I did have flowed exhaust manifolds too, but those versus a sports cat - i'm sure you'd get 260 or a fraction more.

cookstar 19 December 2006 04:41 PM

correct me if im wron but this year has side entry turbo?

If so TD05 Side entry turbos can be had for very good money, iirc there was on for sale on here for around £150.

harvey 19 December 2006 07:24 PM

You can get 260 bhp on the O/E TD04.
Full decat exhaust, ported headers and a GBE valve.

Apart from the 04/05 turbo there are mapping differences within the O/E ECU. I would be very wary of just cranking up the boost manually on an Import map without at least checking it for air/fuel ratio and knock.

The below should give you an indication of the differences in Boost/Fuel/Ignition

y bother with headers? decat, pannel filter and ecu map and its jobs a good 260bhp.

would stay well clear of manual boost valves, to easy to get it wrong and stuff it up, proper ecu remap (although a piggyback will be need on a 95 iirc, someone correct me if i'm wrong).

rest should be ok, only thing might be injectors, don't the preface lift run 330's instead of 440's, are 330's good for 260bhp?

orbix 20 December 2006 09:38 AM

I have a 95wrx wagon with panel, decat, td05, and a esl ecu still running with the original injectors.
Prior to a td05 I had the td04 running with a esl chip (td04 map).

Andy.F 20 December 2006 10:55 PM

The 93-96 cars run 380cc injectors. They can cope with 320bhp with an uprated pump and reg if properly mapped.
As you can see from the ECU maps above there are considerable differences between the 220bhp and 260bhp fuel and ignition maps.
One cheaper solution would be to source a 260bhp cars ECU and use the same TD05 turbo, or there are a few guys (not me) offering chips to change ECU maps which may be cheaper than finding the right ECU.

Can anybody tell me where to obtain a esl chip ? Mick.

Andy

Id take Andy's advice. Start with a 90 degree inlet TD05 turbocharger and a Z4 ECU (found in C-Series -MY'95 & MY'96- JDM Saloons).

WRX Blues 02 January 2007 05:09 PM

A decent VTA dumpvalve should get your brother the extra 40BHP he craves for. You can get them off Ebay for less than £50!:norty:

GC8 02 January 2007 05:18 PM

You should keep peurile crap like that for the other threads that you have posted it on. General Technical is a knob-free forum.

5cby 02 January 2007 05:25 PM

since when does a dump valve give you another 40 horses
im no technical buff but wtf
