'BIG NUT' on a '93 wrx!!!!

anybody done the 5th gear retaining nut on there '93 wrx? with the gearbox in place????

went under mine yesterday and the problem is not with the selector so I'm guessing it is the big nut thats the problem!

I've heard you have to take all of gearbox off to get access to the nut on the early wrx gearboxs

?????????

surely someone on here has done the big nut on a ty752

APIDavid 20 December 2006 09:15 AM

Sponners, You cannot get the back off a TY752 to do the big nut trick as the main selector rail locking pin or bolt is inaccesible. And unless that is separated the housing will not come off over it.

You need to take the 'box out mate.

nooooo:cry:

ok, cheers David!

anything to look out for when splitting box (when it's on the pissin bench):)

cheers
Mark.

Just the pissin oil, pissin off said bench, into yer boots mate.

Take the nut right off clean and straighten out the bit where Subaru peened it into the slot that its supposed to fit too. the clean both threads loctite and do up as tight as you can manage.

Peen it into the slot let the loctite dry out overnight before putting any oil in and hey presto!

Just don't convince yourself that the nut is the problem - make sure it's isn't something worse that you are ignoring, because you want it to be the nut.

Good luck David

cheers matey!

I do have another gearbox kicking round which I've already had the 5th baulk ring out of, so hopefully any other parts needed can come out of that.

just cost of new uprated clutch and lightened flywheel.

oh and having to do it all in a dingy small (no electric) garage

might get round to it next year!!!

thanks again David.
