Paintball guns ?
 

My 11 year old son wants one of these,

Just Paintball Ex-Site Tippmann 98 with BRAND NEW Accessories

He is a bit gun fixated (toy ones) and has been going on about aquiring some kind of projectile weapon for a looooooong time, he has been clay pigeon shooting for his birthday which he liked, he mithers for a BB gun but I wasnt keen and I am certainly not letting him have and air gun/pistol cos I know what I was like with one. We have never encouraged toy guns, but have not banned them either

Not sure about the paintball thing, he cant use it at home, dont want splats all over the garden, his grandparents live on a farm nearby and have a wood where e could go but I am not sure what fun solitary paintball is, plus I dont want the other two to end up technicolour plus they arent really a toy, they do hurt and can injure. Am I better getting him on a paintball day, I went once it was ok but was alarmed by how serious some middle aged men took shooting balls of paint at each other.

So, what do you lot think ?

I would personally spend teh money sending him to a few paintball days over the next year. i will guarentee that if you buy him a gun he will not bother/forget his goggles and eye protection and i will tell you now, he gets hit in the eye he will lose it - no sore eyeball, no black eye - he will lose his eye.

Think carefully if you get him a gun - if it were me i wouldn't

Thought you had to 18 to get these now and AFAIK they run the full laws of all air weapons.

Tippmans are solid makers you really want one of these for yourself;)

If you buy hima paintball gun, I'd phone up the local paint ball event places for prices and get out the spreadsheet to see how much it'll cost you long term ;) Might be better to do that and not bother with the gun and use their standard issure. Last few events I went to our opposing teams all had their own guns. FFS they spent more time faffing with the things trying to get them to work that they did actually shooting people! With them jamming, running out of gas, clogging etc etc. :cuckoo: Consequently, we whooped their asses :lol1:

A paintball gun should be treated with the same care and respect as a air-rifle so you should have the same inhibitions (unless you charge it yourself and only half fill the canister) as they can burst eardrums and blind if fully charged.

Looks like he will have to wait, it is a weapon of sorts and not a toy, all the paintabll places say a minimum age of 12.

Tried to get him into the local archery club and they didnt even return my calls.

some places 14, but tbh i think he's a bit young for paintballing

I have two Tippmann 98's and they are a good marker. They have good range, there's loads of accessories available too. Although it's an older marker, and looks like being second hand on your link, as long as they are maintained properly they should last for ages. They are very durable and reliable. You used to be able to get markers on Ebay, but they banned them a few years back IIRC.

My old marker, prior to this one had a classic old fashioned pump action Phantom Express but got nicked:cry:

I think for a kid or a first timer then the 98 Tippmann kit, would be ideal. Seems you get a good package for £99.01 :)

Paintball is alot of fun, but one in the hands of a young lad is asking for trouble. Well it was for me and my brother when we were younger :freak3: Blimy we shot it everywhere and were so stupid :nono: lucky we never did any real damage to anything :cuckoo:

Like the chief says, get him down to some painballing days, and see if its just a fad he's going through :thumb:
If its not, then get him a fully automatic one like this one :cuckoo: :lol1:

Ive posted this before, but for those who havent seen it, just have a quick gander, its unreal, plus u'd need a dam big hopper :lol1:

coming from a country where alot of people have real guns...i say yes.... but dont just buy it and let him go "play", sit down with him and teach him the fundementals of gun safety. keep it locked up. or better yet, buy yourself one as well.... make it a father/son activity so you can watch him closely with out seeming like your not trusting him.... you have to mold your children into what you expect out of them.... they cant do it on their own

I'm not sure but the last time I played I'm sure that they had brought new legislation out stating that children under 14 couldn't play anymore

I think you might be right with the age being 14. We went in the summer and I think there min age was 14. But it might just depend on which site you go, theres loads to choose from these days.

Going to have a chat with him tonight, think I might just suggest some supervised Airgun practice at his grandparents, well on their land anyway, and perhaps some paintabll days when he gets to 12 as that seems to be the youngest that the companies will deal with.

I thionk half of it is the owning one, rather than the using of, he obviously want's some kudos of his mates from having a paintball gun.

a bit dangerous imo for a youngster, better off giving him supervised airgun or clay shooting.

Don't have kids, but if i did i wouldnt consider giving an 11yr old a paintball gun! not in a baggillion years!

Have come to an amicable solution, supervised airgun target shooting in a field and Paintballing when he is old enough.

Wish the bugger would get into the stuff we pay for like the guitar lessons he cant really be arsed with, would much rather have a guitarist in the house as opposed to Private Pyle.
