Steve Simpson Ucutek remap on Thursday!
 
Hi everyone.
Had the scoob in at TEG Sport on monday 4th Dec for a power run/diagnostics checkover.
All was well on the first run, it made a healthy 257.8bhp, 280lb/ft although it was getting slight det.
The second run had to be aborted as it started to det very badly just after 5800rpm. When Steve checked all settings etc he showed me how it must have had a crap setup back at the factory.
Anyway the only way to fix this problem is a remap which is getting done on Thursday morning. He also said he could get a bit more power & get the fuelling a lot better at the same time.
My question to you guys who know your scoobs is how much more power do you reckon can be made with this Ecutec remap?
Car is a MY99 uk classic ppp. Only other engine mods are, Pipercross ind, Bailey d/v.

What an awesome car! Can't remember what the figures are but that thing is crazy. Steve had the back end out on most bends & can certainly handle his cars (rally driver i believe). Well impressed. Gonna ask him for another shot on Thursday!:D

Hi mate

Made 265 bhp and 295 ftlbs with Tek3 map on my my99 uk turbo with full decat and panel filter.

The PPP ECU wasn't mapped to run with an induction kit or different dump valve so your det is down to the parts fitted, not the ECU calibration I'm afraid. This is why you should NEVER change parts such as intake systems without recalibrating, particularly on cars fitted with any form of remapped ECU as there simply won't be the tolerance left in the overfuelling to cope.

Your car will be much safer after it's remapped to suit the parts you've got fitted. I would suggest however that if you are planning any further mods, speak to Steve and see if he suggests you do all the mods first before remapping to avoid having to do the job twice.

Steve Simpson is quite plainly the man....

You wouldn't think it but he's a mad mechanic!
When he was mapping mine it was making 319bhp before he started and he was just tweaking and tweaking untill he was happy....which in turn had amazing results :norty:

Don't be surpirsed if he starts reading a list of what you should get for the car.....just have your cheque book ready and do it :thumb:

That's not the case here. Dump valve makes no difference on load. (edit - in reply to mikes post)

Plenty of people use induction kit's to draw in hot air and destroy there MY99 mafs, but in it's self will not cause det. Combined with a de-cat it has been know to produce fluctuation in boost though.

I would have said straight away maf failure, but then I would hope that would be spotted at the time.

Btw, steve did my car. Good job :D

Dont you mean that induction kits will adversely affect the maf readings (unless remapped) which will now be incorrect, which can make the engine run lean, which could cause det?

No, I mean MY99 mafs are a particular weak spot and have a tendency to die a death when used.

They tend to go in one of two ways, slowly misread to cause a lean mixture (the dangerous way). Or just collapse completely not making the car drive as if it were disconnected, or worse.

Other tham when using the APS cold air induction kit, the mixture remains pretty good with a healthy maf and most IKs. (talking generally here)

Ahhh, I understand what you are saying, but a simple test will confirm if its the maf or not.....and one would have assumed that the tuner would have done this!

TBH i'm not planning any further mods (for a long while anyway!).
I'm quite happy with the way the car goes ATM although Steve was telling me about his 2.5 conversions which got me dribbling a bit:)
Anyway i'll keep you all posted as to the results on thursday:norty:
