Do I have to or should I, inform my ins co about a Boost Gauge?

I've had a prob with a minor brake mod lately with them....wondered if I needed to tell them or do you think they are they likely to charge me for it?

Cheers
Neil

I think they'd likely charge you. Bell/Admiral seem to charge for everything - their reasoning is it makes car more desireable to theives. :(
I heard from my dealer that Tesco insurance bump up premiums for interior 'mods' too, but only once. So if you change the gear knob it;s £60, but at the same time you can do whole dash kit, guage pod, leather retrim etc and it's still £60 (ish for the individual they were talking about)

Chuck,

You're having a giraffe!!!! I haven't declared my gear knob, didn't think it was necessary........:(

Bugger :(

See yaz!!

The Zohan 27 November 2001 03:44 PM

This is getting silly!

I have an air freshener in mine (makes the car more desirable after a curry) - Should i declare it ;)

Blackscooby 27 November 2001 03:55 PM

Agreed its getting very silly...

I've got a packet of Airwaves gum down the drivers door pocket. Should I tell em ???

Is my insurance invalid if I don't :D :D : D

Silly, very silly.

What about the inscets (SPELL CHECK PLEASE) stuck on the front. Does that make a differance?

In another vain, will their family claim from my insurance or should I go for a counter civil suit for paint dammage?

Ian :D

Difficult one

You should tell them - following a theft claim they could argue that it had made the car more desirable to theives. (not my view)

They shouldn't really charge for it - well anything more than an admin fee.

There was a story in some insurance press that Dire** L*** threw a claim out on a mini becuase the owner had changed the dash-board.

Thanks Jeremy, I'll tell them and hope its just the admin fee or they say not to worry
Somehow I doubt it after the troubles I've had with replacing my discs and pads.........:(

Cheers for the info. :D

Tell them

I've just taken out insurance with Adrian Flux, and told them that the car was modified.

As part of the "modified vehicle" form, they ask "include all additional instrumentation".

So it seems that it could be something that they need to know about. My last insurers didn't, but I'm completely safe now...

V. impressed with the "modified vehicle" form. It's something that all insurers should adopt!

Nick.

Informed Tescos that I've fitted a boost gauge and intercooler shield - they told me there would no premium increase as the parts do not enhance the looks or the performance of the car (but to keep the receipts in case of a claim). I will be declaring them mods (such as they are) in writing to them this week, just in case

Hey Nick, yeah I'm with Flux to. Was impressed by my experiences previously, this year my experisnces ain't been so good. :(
I've just got my actual policy (certificate and schedule) a week or so ago - took the insurance out on MARCH 10th  I've had to fill in two application forms for the insurance and send my proof of no claims etc twice as the underwriters never got the first........
Said if I replaced the worn subaru discs and pads with another make, they'd void the insurance.. Sent them a letter to Customer Service manager and can now fit them with no extra charge or changes to the policy......

But agree the modified form is a good idea.

ScoobyJawa 28 November 2001 03:44 PM

Phoned Adrian Flux and explained the Boost Gauge to the girl on the phone. She said I didn't need to declare it :D:D:D:D:D:D:D

Still, gonna write to them and get written proof, to cover my back :D

alistair 28 November 2001 05:17 PM

Don't trust a thing Adrian Flux (or anyone else) says over the phone. I've had loads of hastle with them for example - letter saying they've not got my drivers licence photocopy - I call them, explain that they have and also they have a copy with my wife's insurance also with them give them the ref. no. told everything is now sorted - a week later get a recorded delivery letter with notice of policy cancellation !!!!! I ended up sending them another copy with a sarcastic letter.

Sorted now, but I'll definately be moving brokers next year no matter how cheap the renewal quote is.

Blimey - if I told my last company - Supercar with NU I would have spent a fortune - I told them a couple of things and each time got charged an admin fee of £30.

My current company - A Plan (Axa)dont seem to care, as they said I'm already fully loaded on each category!
(cost me an extra 10% for modifications to the brakes - £130!)
With my previous company it would have been charges for

Boost gauge
Temp sensor
Link Module
Lamda Link
Morpheus pod
Special warning lights on the laser jammer
sti mats - that dont come with the car as standard
