Car Conundrum - What should I buy ??

I am after some advice.

Baby has arrived and need something with five doors and a decent boot that doesn't cost the earth to run and insure.

To give you some idea of what i am looking for my previous cars have been:-

AX GT <-------first car.....ha ha ha !!!!
Punto GT
Scooby MY00
Clio 172 Cup
Seat Ibiza 130pd TDI Sport <----------Current car

Not sure what to go for really....i have looked at the new Leon FR 170 TDi and also a Mark 5 Golf GTI, both second hand.

Another option would be to go for say the Mark 1 Leon FR 150TDI and put some money in the bank (or pay off the mortgage).

Problem is i want something decent to drive. What do you think of the above or do you have any other suggestions????

I here the Mark 5 Golf GTI does reasonable mpg and when i drove the Leon 170 it only did 35mpg !!??? :eek:

Also, is there a scoobynet equivalent for the mark 5 golf ?

Honda Civic or Ford Focus.

Would have thought a Golf Gti (Petrol) would be much lower than a Seat diesel. My wife's 140 diesel Golf returns 45mpg combined. On a run I can average 50+.

If the Golf GTI suits you but you want better MPG then what about a Golf GT TDI? It's 140bhp (and the new one is available with 170bhp) so it should go OK.
