What should I do with this dog?
 

Just washing the car and this dog turned up

Anyway it wouldnt go away, so I give it some food, and he wolfed it down like he hadnt been fed for quite a while, I then went to put all the hose etc away, and he started whining when I left him

Not sure what to do other than phone the RSPCA, he is now sleeping it off in the porch

Here he is (looks like he might have some injury to his rear paw, and has marks on the side of his head)

I have a dog already (Choc Lab) who has seen him, barked a couple of times but doesnt seem too bothered about him

I can't offer up a suggestion as to the best course of action, but wanted to congratulate you on doing what you have so far, as I'm sure there are many who would have ignored it. :)

Thanks, even though he is still sleeping it off, he is still shaking like a leaf, poor thing

Probably best to give the RSPCA a call, they should be able to advise you.

animal cruelty is the worst kind...the poor buggers cant defend themselves

He might be chipped, so i guess if you can either get him to a vet or the police who can scan him, they might be able to trace his owner.. heart of gold blobs should be available. you well deserve one :luxhello:

Ring RSPCA and then when its not claimed in 7 days you add another member to the family!!!

Knowing the kinds of people that usually have staffys he's probably escaped because some drunken divot who never walks him left their gate open. Strangely, its the same types that don't bother with collars, as they keep them for themselves. ;)

Police usually won't do anything, well not last time it happened to me. But you should still report him anyway and if they won't take custody of him tell them you'll put him the care of the local RSPCA and preferably ensure they make a note of that incase the owner does phone them to track him down..

Steve, brindle staffies rule and thats got a lotta brindle staffiness about it... (I only know coz I have one, but I dont want another)...
If you can offer it a home and put a notice up in a few local shops re having found it I would to that for now (on the premise that your dog and it get along)...
Alternatvely call the dogs trust in Huyton as its only 10 mins away and see what they recommend. If it is a pure Staffy, there is a local charity who deal only with that breed who I can put you in touch with...PM me if you want, I'll pop back on in a bit...

RSPCA - best bet.

If its been neglected or abused they are unlikely to return it to its owner. It may have been lost for a few days though hence injury and hunger so don't automatically assume neglect.

Take it to the RSPCA and then let the police know thats what you have done.

Just put him in the back with my dog, and his tail is no longer between his legs, and they are running round the garden weeing on each other, his ears have now pricked up too, and they are seemingly happy playing with each other, both tails wagging furiously :)

I'm sure he knows full well that the breed has an unforunate follwing by types that shouldn't be allowed to own a dog full stop. That doesn't mean that there aren't loving caring owners out there...but they would have a name/address tag on their dog, wouldn't they? ;)

nice looking dog, he doesnt look to old either, if you have the space/time to keep him, then id keep him, otherwise take him to the rspca and hoepfully they will find him a good home, he looks a bit like my staffy exepct mine has a white strip across his face.

i wouldnt advertise him as you will get some chav come to collect him, if you cant keep the poor old thing a rescue home is the safest bet as they will treat him then rehome it into a good home

RSPCA my bottom :eek: They put healthy dogs to sleep...Terrific send off for a stray who could go to a good home... Dogs Trusts (if you have one local) are a far better place for a stray to be taken(providing they have the room) as they never put healthy dogs to sleep... Plus Dogs Trust dont just give staffies out to the first person who comes along... Potential owners are much more strictly vetted...

As for the repetoir of the staffy breed. It is true that scum see them as a trophy dog and it's a shame, because to one who knows the breed well (and is a little bias) there is none better to have as a family pet...

I'll second that...

Although it's a longshot, can you give us an idea of where you are though as I did see a lost dog notice in a newsagents window about 1 mile from me. Apparently the dog in question, a staffy wearing a harness, ran off after being frightened by fireworks a few weeks ago.

Well done on taking him and trying to sort him out. :)

Right just got through to the police, and they told me I have a number of options, as no one has reported a lost dog

1. I can take him to the police station and they will put him in a kennel

2. I cn phone the RSPCA (did this and they said i have to phone local dog warden as its down to them to remove stray dogs)

3. They can take my details and will eventually send someone out to collect him

4. I can keep him, and phone the dog warden tomorrow

So still not sure what to do

Now his paw wound has opened up, and there is a lot of blood in the conservatory from his paw, now trying the Dog Trust to see if I can get him treated, as there appears to be no 24 hour vet anywhere that I can find
