Now before you flame me off the site. Have a look at this. Article in this months (December) Car Magazine. Apparantly VW have at last realised that the latest Golf has become a tad lardy, so they are planning something a little bit special:

How about a 300bhp 4WD 4 litre W8 (yes 8 cylinder) HyperGolf?
Or a Polo with a potential 225bhp 3.2 litre V6, possibly also with 4WD?

They also have plans for a 218bhp 3litre Bora Diesel http://bbs.scoobynet.co.uk/eek.gif

It would appear that VW is quite serious and already has a prototype for the Golf.

Now, I'm not saying we should all rush out to our local VW dealers and wack down a big deposit, but there could be some very interesting cars emerging from VW in the next few years...

Chris,

Not having seen the article. I would love to know how they think a 4L W8 engine will fit in the Golf. http://bbs.scoobynet.co.uk/confused.gif

Brabus have trouble shoe horning the big litres into the C class. And that engine bay is bigger.

I think the VW modular engines are all pretty short though, so maybe possible. Scary.

I guess this will be the next evolution of Golf, but the article did say that they were hopeful that they could fit the W8 engine without a major redesign of the front end.

Scary stuff

Don't forget Brabus managed to get a 450 bhp 6.5 litre V8 engine into the SLK.

Even if VW make this car how much will it cost. The current top of the range Golf 4-motion is not cheap once you add some options.

Chris L 07 November 2000 08:15 AM

Yea, well they haven't mention prices yet http://bbs.scoobynet.co.uk/smile.gif

Mind you in fairness, these cars are a couple of years away , but I would agree that they are not likely to be cheap.

Autoexpress say:
No 225hp AWD Polo,
they weren't able to fit AWD to the polo, and found 225hp through its front wheels just too much,
so its going to be 180hp fwd.
as for the Golf no W8 also, maybe a 3.2V6 engine with 225hp,
but think not cause it is going into the TT,
and like with the S3 they don't want the car to be more powerful than the TT.

That RS200 is still so good looking.
Mind you, I'd settle for the 6R4 Metro at half the price.

There is a kit car maker doing RS200's, they look the biz.

Only rear wheel drive though. Need a cossie donour car.

Should be able to build one for around 18K.

tizard99 09 November 2000 09:44 AM

CPW, cossie in RS200 donor, Nah, Scooby STi running gear and engine, shoe horn that in some how! would be alot nicer but a bit of a bitch to sort the gearbox/engine configuration out probably (rear engined).

Trev.
