Does anybody know.....

....what the import tax from Hong Kong is?

If I was to buy something from ebay via Hong Kong, I have to pay the import tax. I can't find anything on the Customs and Excise website.

Any ideas?

hello mate
i have bought quite a few bits from hongkong off ebay but were all under the £100 bracket and were never stopped/ asked for duty:thumb:
i think they will charge VAT on the whole value including post/carriage, so make sure you get the bill for the item itself, then you can get some VAT back for the post/carriage:)

I got done for VAT on the "declared" value.
Depends how friendly the sender is. They may do a lower value or mark as gift. (this is tax evasion, not tax avoidance)
Some couriers will also charge a fee on top of the vat itself.

you will need to find out the exact rate of duty also whether you need a gsp form , the easiest way is to find out the customs tariff no. this will give your the rate of duty,
typically around 5-10 percent
you will also pay vat, which you may be able to claim back
your freight forwarder will charge you for laying out the vat and duty which may be one or two percent or 10 gbp minimum.
this isnt a rip off many big forwarders have therir own deferment account with customs and this can be anything from 1-1000000 pounds every month!

get it sent over as a sample no commercial value this may help
