40% off wine and champagne at Threshers stores

Threshers - Wine Rack - Bottoms Up - Haddows - The Local

For ten days, from 30 November until 10 December, they will offering 40% off ALL their wine. That means all red and white, all French, all Spanish, all Australian, all Champagne. Everything.

Not a bad deal etc. There’s just one catch: They’re not promoting it. Nada. No ads, no in-store promotion. Zilch.
The only way to get the 40% off is by getting your hands on one of their special, “super-secret” coupons. This means either someone you know has to give you one, or you have to download the PDF from here;

Viral Marketing: Thresher offers 40% Off « Unjustly

It's no joke, I went into my local Wine Rack last night, and the deal is legit... (but it does negate any 3 for 2 deals). Haven't decided what to buy yet.

Green blobs my way please :thumb:

"Viral marketing" certainly instils confidence, doesn't it? :)

David Lock 30 November 2006 08:54 AM

I went to Threshers last night and asked about the offer. The girl knew nothing about it although someone had asked about using a coupon.

Do you know if one needs an original cut-out coupon or will a print-off be accepted? We had a chat about this the other day on here.

Reffro 30 November 2006 09:33 AM

Print off are acceptable, we called the local store to confirm the offer was genuine.....

I opened the PDF, and printed out a black and white copy, I took this to my local and asked the Manager if this was real, she said she knew about it, but not much, she ready the black and white copy... and agreed with the T&C's.

I held up the paper and said, "So next time I come in, this is all I need?" She said "Yes."

It's real, and it appears to be worth it for 40% off.

Lol, this has been the most 'spammed' mail i've received this week :D Must have had it sent from about 20 different people i know.....EVERYONE is gonna be using these vouchers for the next week, good 'ol threshers :D

David Lock 30 November 2006 10:02 AM

Well that's good news and a good offer but remember that their basic single bottle undiscounted price is way over the comparable market price. dl

this offer is legit, and if the staff read their emails it will have been clearly explained to them!
basically, the coupon has been put up on a website ( superplonk) and also been sent out to our business partners for them to give to their staff.
Obviously seeing as the voucher is on a website, it's gonna need to be printed off... so a print out is acceptable!
We had our first coupon in yesterday!
So go on guys, don't be wary.... get that voucher printed off and used !!!!!
And if the member of staff that serves you doesn't think it's real, tell them to check their emails!!!!!!! the gift code should be either WINEORB... or WINEGIFT !!

Have a merry xmas on thresher guys..... coz i'm damned if the staff are gonna get any xmas box off the tight gits !!!!!!!

BBC NEWS | Business | Web discount frenzy at Threshers

D

Chris L 01 December 2006 02:29 PM

One thing to consider though. For as long as I can remember - Threshers have done a 3 for 2 offer - which is effectively a 33% discount. The 3 for 2 thing is excluded, so what you're actually getting is a 7% discount over what you can normally get. But 40% sounds better than 7% and you've got to hand it to them - great bit of advertising!

David Lock 01 December 2006 02:34 PM

But, and perhaps speed demoness can confirm this, Threshers have regularly had 40% off offers which were open for all for as many times as you bought and valid for a couple of weeks at a time at least. 6 bottle min purchase IIRC.

So the coupon offer is not quite so generous (one-off purchase only for example) but it gets all this publicity. Great marketing though guys :D

wilkoca 01 December 2006 02:56 PM

3 x bottles £5.00 = £15.00

Under the 3 for 2 offer costs £10.00

Alt using the discount (as it excludes the 3 - 2 offer) 40% off £15.00 = £9.00

Net saving £1.00

:lol1: :lol1: :lol1:

Superb marketing

Chris L 01 December 2006 03:31 PM

Does anyone read my posts? Probably not! ;)

Flatcapdriver 01 December 2006 03:34 PM

If you read the small print it states that the offer is based on a minimum value of £400.00.

+Doc+ 01 December 2006 03:36 PM

Clever marketing now Gap have followed the trend :)

Nick100 01 December 2006 05:53 PM

Our local Sainsburys (probably all) have got 25% off all wine, champagne and fortified wine if you buy more than 6 bottles ....
and that is on top of any other discounts they've got at the moment :D:D

For Chris L - I read it :D
Some of their wines with 50% offers already with a further 25% off, end up with 62.5% off !!

They will probably still be more expensive than the supermarkets as most off licences are well over supermarket prices.

Rudolph Hooker 01 December 2006 06:50 PM

News reckons its a con ...........

richardg 01 December 2006 11:16 PM

the 3 for 2 is a con! look at their prices!!
still, they are usually in a convenient location and as well all know, convenience usually costs us all money so i suppose it's not all bad

that's what I was trying to tell you all in the original post about the 40% off coupon !

even if you don't manage to print one of these coupons off, then we still have the buy 2 get 3rd free on offer anyway... which has been running for the last 15 months or so now.:thumb:

yes David.... we are still running a 40% off .. without the coupon.. on our range of delisted wines as long as you buy 6 bottles!

bioforger 02 December 2006 04:44 PM

lol at the sheep in this thread. Ooooh look 40% discount!!! must run to threshers immediately! :lol1:

scoobynutta555 02 December 2006 06:43 PM

Soon as I saw this in the paper I had it marked as a pr exercise. If it was a mistake and they were truely losing money then they would close the offer straight away not leave it run 'til 10th Dec. Also weren't Threshers in the **** not so long ago, there were rumours that they were going to fold. Our local one was running down it's stock months ago and has now closed. The prices in Threshers are a joke anyway. Who want's to pay inflated prices when the supermarkets are open 24/7 selling booze.

speed demoness 02 December 2006 10:44 PM

nutta.... Threshers are well set in their ways about customer service ( ie honouring vouchers etc, and yes... I too see it as a ploy to get extra footfall into the shops... and I work for the miserly bastids !!!!!!)...thing is, they fecked up a week or so ago with an offer in the sunday mail.... a bottle of Glenfiddich Solera @ half price ( shelf price £31.99, with coupon = £15.99)
we were sent only 6 bottles of the stuff... we could have more than trebled/quadrupled the sales if only they had sent in enough stock!!!!!
but we found out a week later that the depot had loads more stock and we were going to be allocated more bottles....... so we took numbers of people who had the vouchers, telling them more stock would be available next week, and we could prolong the date on their voucher....... HA !!!!!!! no more stock arrived, and we couldn't add the stuff onto our order either!

I work for the bastids.... and they are money grabbing... pay the employees a pittance ( i'm a senior sales assistant and earn only just over the national minimum wage) ... yes I know I should leave, but I do enjoy what I do and have a vast knowledge of wines after the training sessions I've been on with the group.
I too really do believe that it was a marketing ploy:rolleyes:
anything to make money !!!!!!
