what year engine will go with mine
 

it looks like i have thrown a rod so im need of a new engine its cheaper to buy a new one than get a rebuild, my car is a uk 97 and was the phase 1 engine but i have the apexi ecu so which engine will be a straight swap with all the correct wiring im sure the sti 4 is a 97 and a straight swap could someone confirm that for me

You will be ok to use an STI 3 or 4 engine in your car.

You could just change the short motor.

Then you can use pretty much any 2.0L short motor with your heads.(although you may need a new head presuming the rod may of damaged it)

Do you mean what is a short motor?

The short motor is just the engine bottom end (lower casing with the crank,pistons,rods etc) excluding the heads.

Any 2.0L short motor (from 93-06 inc STI) can basically be used with any 2.0L heads although you will need to get the correct head gaskets.
