Siphoning fuel tank

Is it possible to siphon petrol from the tank. (newage sti)
I need to take some fuel out of my tank and was having a bit of difficulty trying to get a hose down there. Is there some sort of anti-siphon device in there?

So, not a popular way of accessing other peoples fuel?

would be easier to take a pipe off the fuel filter and turn the ignition on it will only prime for a bit but you'll get a bit of fuel from it :lol1:

I need to take out 1/4 tank and fill it with v-power prior to an imminent remap.

It doesn't take as long as you might imagine to pump through several litres...... think about the flow rate of the pump!!!

Is this in relation to the fuel filter method?

scoobyboy 27 November 2006 11:19 PM

is there not a drain on the tank?

i could go through 1/4 tank just goin for a spin 10miles out the back roads abd back again. Have fun with the fuel you have already paid over the top for! :thumb:

Go for a drive!! 1/4 tank should be about 50 miles tops! Should be quicker than messing about with it.....

Put her in the garage, turn the key, brick on the accelerator and leave till a neighbour complains. Remember to leave the garage door open though.

Yup. The system WONT prime if the outlet from the fuel filter isn't capped off, so it'll empty the tank very quickly.

1st thing in morning take off hose from outlet of filter (rag around pipework to soak up spills if still any pressure in pipes), secure a couple of metres of fuel hose on filter outlet and secure it going into 20 litre container.
Turn on ignition and 1/4 tank empty in 5 minutes.

Yup, apart from you forgot to bridge the fuel pump relay (as it only runs for 1 second on switch on).

Don't know where that is on a newage, but it's a bitch to get on a classic (behind dash) it's easier to run a live to the fuel pump connector under the seat.
