4x4 tyres

I drive a Nissan X-Trail and one of the front tyres has a nail in it.:(

On a 4 wheel drive, do I have to replace both front tyres at the same time?

Also, which tyre should I go for? I do not do off roading but pull a caravan with it.

Thanks for any advice,:thumb:

I'm guessing the answer to your first question is "Depends on how many miles are on the other front tyre", and to your second "Why not the type that's on there already?"

Not trying to be funny, just a bit of detail may help you :)

Am still interested in the answers, as the front Toyos on my RAV4 now need replacing. I'll probably try to get the same, just as I can't be bothered to look into all the differences.

Ive got a couple of pajero's and always use BF Goodrich tyres. If you do a search for 4x4 tyres on the net, most sites allow you to choose according to the amount of off road you do.

These BFG tyres are 50% road / 50% offroad and can last upt to 50K miles. Ive found that 4x4 tyres are quite cheap. in your situation, I would new tyre, put it on the front, rotate the spare ( if new ) and put that onthe front, making the puntured one as the spare.

If your current tyre is within wear limits then you do not have to replace it, if its very close it might benefit you as some co. do a deal if you buy 2 or more tyres, as for the type of tyre if you are happy with the current tyres its good to keep them the same but not essential.

I use Pirelli Scorpion STRs

I get 40-50K miles out of a set & they cost about £65-70 each

Thanks for all your posts.

Apparantly, the other front one was close to being worn too so have ordered 2 new ones.

Have got the same as the origionals.

(If they are good enough for Nissan then they are good enough for me!)
