I have had my P1 now for 8 months and am thinking of changing it for a 22B or continuing to mod the P1

Is it worth changing and the extra cash ?

Does the 22B have better tuning potential
than my P1 and what can be done to it at reasonable cost.

Just my opinion but if I had a 22B I wouldnt go over the top modifying it. The best ones in 10 years times will be the ones which are pretty close to standard. The best ones I have seen have had exhaust change (obviously) and have a programmable ecu for a safer map for the engine to run on our fuel. I dont really want to put you off a 22B but the costs for bits (esp bodywork) are a lot higher.

Havign said that I would put money on some muppet saying the 22B is a better platform because it had 350bhp standard. I am sure a lot 22B owners would love that their car was 350 standard ;).

If I wanted big power then get an STi RA or R with a close deck block and spend a fortune on that ;). You would definitely get cash back off a P1 against an STI which would fund the mods.

cheers

Rick,

OMG selling the P1 and getting a 22b...Why not have both ? As you said the misses like it ;)

I wouldn't bother wasting the extra cash on one. They aren't that much faster, certainly not worth the extra cash. They're very hard to get hold of as well.

How many BHP is she now ? Mines 239 BHP 251 Lb Torque, but over boosting. Scoobysports Downpipe is fantastic.

Was thinking of buying mine off the company and having a link fitted ;) and a boost controller ;)

Ja might be swapping his Scooby for a 4x4 2.2 litre Cossie...

What mods have you got now ?

Cheers Phill

PS Try someone RA, they are fast as ****..

Utter tosh.

The 22B is a better tning platform because it is a 2.2 simple as that.

If you want to mod, dont buy one unless you dont care about the value or you keep all the standard bits.

If the engine goes wrong you will have a nightmare getting a new block but apart from that, hmmm.

IN a straight line there isnt much in it. Low down grunt a standard 22B will leave any other standard road going impreza for dead.

However on a normal road point to point I would say the P1 is the quicker safer bet. It is easier to drive fast and has ABS.

It doesnt look anywhere near as good though.

Saying that, I have one of the most modded 22Bs on this board and I dont regret it for a second (often ;) ).

Adam M,

Touchy!!! Come on there isn't that much in it, I've been on the track in a P1 against many different scoobies, and after about 30 MPH there isn't that much in it. The 22b wasn't remarkably faster, that all I'm saying. PTMW impressed me, he was he kept up with the 22b no drama.

I have no doubt that if Rick gets a 22b it will be seriously mod'ed. He can't help himself ;)

Why don't you meet up with him and let him drive your 22b, so he can compare. He lives near you. Make sure you take a spare pair of pants though ;)

Sound like it is all down to personal taste,

Phil, I would love to have both, but just bought a Ducati, and
can not get the Wife out the Beetle, Instant divorce if i buy another car.
Not sure what the P1 is at the moment, i have just the SS b/box and the MAC induction kit which is fantastic, She is going very well. I Want an Exhaust ASAP (was hoping before 30th) but can not decide on which one and also if it is worth spending if i go for 22B

Oh yes, cheers mate for the comment about my driving skills
and the requirement for spare pants!!

I am due to go on SIDC track day on the 30th at Bedford,

I do love the 22B looks, a lot meaner and more purposeful , No ABS is not a problem, I will try to get
a test drive if I can find one in a dealer, Subaru Reading did have one for sale £39995
It must be very special to be worth the extra cash.

Adam, you say yours is heavily moded, what have you done and what is she up to now.

What is the BHP / Torque in standard trim, I thought ot was 280, I know this is due to Jap restrictions on power,

What Would Exhaust / Induction and programmable ECU take it up to..

Hi Rick,

sorry, I can't offer any insight into the 22b, but as I have P1, I am interested to hear what you've done to yours. I've fancied modding but am unsure what is safe after so much conflicting info floating around. All I have is the turbo back exhaust.

Be interested in your comments.

Cheers,

MS

Go for a Scoobysports decat downpipe and BB. Bob had 307 BHP with this arrangement ;)

Ask Anders on his site for some more gen. It ll be biased tho!

babber 25 November 2001 09:27 AM

Rick,

What I meant was that you are a fast driver, not a pants driver. LOL...

Get a Full Scoobysport decat exhaust and a link ECU, you won't regret it mate.

SIDC driving day at Bedford on the 30th, well they all better watch out. We might come along and watch ;)

I do understand what your saying about the looks of the 22b, but is it worth the extra £15 that you'll have to spend after selling the P1 ??

Just tune the P1 to the max, and you'll be very happy with her.

Cheers Phill C

Phil, I know what you meant, come on up to Bedford should be a good day, may need to get some new tyres on the way home!!!
I understand I can tale passengers (one at a time)

15K + is a lot for looks, Did Bob have link ECU on his P1

I may go look very closely at the 22B then go from there, the extra
15K would always get me a nice track day car

overthelimit 25 November 2001 10:12 AM

Martin

At present only done the prodive 18s, prodrive brake upgrade, scooby sport back box and Macs induction kit.

I will do full exhaust as per Phil’s recommendations, If you ever
want to have a blast in her and see what the differences are, let me know

Rick

babber 25 November 2001 10:19 AM

No, Bob got 307 BHP with just the Scooby sport Downpipe, Mid section and Back box.

He did have a link on his MY00, with the exhaust was getting 280 BHP.

The good thing about the link, is you can plug you laptop into it, cool hey!!

Might arrange a meeting with Chins around Bedford way for next Friday ;) Oh and I happen to have my Helmet in the boot. The extra 15K would get you a MY00, that will be good for a track car ;)

Get the downpipe and mid section, you won't be dis-appointed. They sound brilliant, well worth the money.

Cheers Phill C
