They may simply need the beams resetting. Mine did.

Scoobysport can HID the existing Morettes. Re cheap remedy - what do you consider cheap? - £399 + vat for HID conversion on existing Morettes....

All Scoobysport does is replace the dipped beam £400 all in

Dave I got mine adjusted at an MOT station and I still think the beams are not great

I now intend getting them done before christmas

Ok Xmas Bonus just been awarded and its burning a hole already

Now I love the looks of the Morrettes but if I was really honest the performance even with +50% Bulbs is not great

Has anybody (Pete Scoobysport excluded) got an unbiased opinion on the HID version

Phil, Brother Pat has the Scoobysport HID morette conversion. They looked bright enough for me. I Think the kit costs around £400.

As you probably know I am a mate of Pete, and have spent an *awful* lot of money (voluntarily:D) with ScoobySport in the last year!!

However, I will report the facts and you can decide.

1) Carolyn's MY01 is running Morette's with standard bulbs. Main beam (with PIAA's) is excellent but dip has a sharp cutoff due to the projector lenses and beam reach could be better.

2) My MY01 is running Morette's with Philips Vision Plus. Definitely more light/reach on dip but still inferior to our runaround - eight year old Pug 205 GTI with standard bulbs and one dodgy reflector:rolleyes:

3) I spent five days in the passenger seat of Pete's car on the Network Q last week. The difference in cutoff and reach of the HID is VERY noticeable - whereas with mine you can see the beam cutoff on dip halfway up the car in front's bootlid, with the HID it was illuminating 15 feet up reflective roadsigns on the M4 at night a quarter of a mile ahead!!!!

Put it this way, I shall be converting mine.....:)

I've got a MY01 WRX with ScoobySport Morettes and I too find them very short sighted on dip beam - enough that it scares me sh**less to drive fast on any unlit roads!!

Is it possible to upgrade them to HDI's or do you have to completely replace them?

If I can't get a cheap solution I'll probably end up putting the standard lights back on (after cooking them in the oven and painting the insides black...!)

I didn't fit the Morettes in the first place, I inherited the car that way from a colleague, plus the standard units in a box so I don't have any idea what it's like to drive with the standard lights.

Aesthetics aside, how do they compare?

LOL - "cheap" - I thought you might say that:D

There are two adjusters on the dip beams. The one at the SIDE of the lamp adjusts lateral i.e. side to side beam setting - ignore this.

Directly underneath the bulb area of the dip beam unit is a threaded plastic screw about 35mm long with a combined 8mm nut/screwhead on it. This controls horizontal beam height. You simply screw it in or out (and I can't remember which is which) to adjust the beam up or down.

Line it up on the garage door with the lights on dip, mark the door with some insulating tape or similar before you start as to where the cutoff of the beam is, and you can then see what happens when you start to adjust it. Two words of warning - firstly, an inch or so of movement on the door translates into a lot of movement 30 yards in front of the car so only move it a bit at a time, and secondly if you go too high it will dazzle other road users and would fail an MOT (but not an issue for a couple of years).

You will also have to remove the air intake trunking from the o/s to get room to reach the adjuster (two 10mm bolts).

It's a fiddly job but do-able.

How do they perform, aesthetics aside? Well, our eight year old Pug 205 GTI runaround with standard bulbs and a dodgy reflector still has better dip than the Morettes.....:D:D

As you're the Frankenstein who fitted my lights, presumably they're bog standard Morettes and didn't come fitted with any high power extra lumen gismos?

when i fitted the lights to your car i asked on here about the adjustment and if i recall correctly someone (you know who you are;)) suggested that you just waited till someone flashed you then altered the level via the in car adjuster on the dash!!!!

so on his advice ;) i never set them up proper!

Unless I am very much mistaken the in-car adjuster doesn't affcet the Morette unit (at least it didn't when I tried it....)

The internal h/l adjustor makes bugger all difference to the level of my Morettes.

It should do - if installed correctly.....assuming you have got the ones with the electric adjusters (they do two versions).

Well, haven't had time to put the carbon dash kit in yet, or mini mudflaps on, but next will be STI7 bonnet scoop (probably in carbon), black smoked side repeaters and reflectors, and of course Link when it is ready.....and no doubt I will find a few other things along the way:D
