the dump valve on a prodrive p2

Long shot but does anyone know what sort of a dumpvalve was used on the prodrive p2

jay

Tuts 14 November 2006 05:37 PM

It doesn't have one and uses anti lag I think.

GC8 14 November 2006 05:44 PM

'Dump-valve on a P2?'? Mate; are you having a laugh?

Bat-Fink 14 November 2006 05:48 PM

No DV on the P2 hence the turbo stall.

Not sure if it runs ALS.

impreza_terzo3_no257 14 November 2006 06:00 PM

i thought it had one, ohwell had to ask as curiosity was killing the guy sitting next to me

Bat-Fink 14 November 2006 06:34 PM

Nah mate regardless of what Clarkson says it's not 'wastegate chatter' but Comp stall.

It's a funny sound if you've never heard it.

95blackWRX 14 November 2006 06:54 PM

bollocks it is a dump valve my mate has dump valve that makes that noise. do u honestly think they would just leave it and let the turbo stall all the time when they can cure it with dump valve or blow off valve

Mate your making yourself look a little stupid here its not a dumpvalve!!!:nono:

Its the wastegate as it shuts it forces the air back out of the rotating (sp)
turbo blades and makes that strange sound like turkies being stuffed under
the bonnet:thumb:

95blackWRX 14 November 2006 07:11 PM

well my mate has a blitz blow off valve that makes that noise when he lifts off so i disagree ith the wastegate story

Bat-Fink 14 November 2006 07:22 PM

95WRX:It is nowt to do with the wastegate end of.

Matt:You can' recreate that noise with a DV besides I think as much as I hate saying this Prodrive know what they're doing.

PICKLE 14 November 2006 07:24 PM

P2 uses a modified Subaru Impreza STi engine and all wheel drivetrain, which incorporate two of Prodrive’s innovative technologies to enhance performance – ALS (Anti-Lag System) and ATD (Active Torque Dynamics). The two-litre flat-four engine is fitted with Prodrive’s ALS . This has been derived from the same system currently used on the Prodrive-designed Subaru World Rally Car, but modified for use on the road. ALS can keep the turbo on boost at low engine speeds, giving the car immediate throttle response and improved performance by using more of the engine’s 575 Nm of torque throughout the rev range.

i'll back you up Bat-fink

The P2 does not have a DV, it is the chatter off the turbo fins that create the noise. The reason some DV's create the same noise is because they are not releasing all the air to atmosphere.

This is just regards to hearing the flutter noise but running an atmos DV.

SO if you get the flutter noise when closing the throttle, its actually because theres not enough pressure to open the valve at all.

OR is it because theres not enough pressure to keep the valve open whilst the throttle is closed and its the valve opening and closing as the pressure rises and falls.

As for me, I took my atmos DV off on Sunday when I fitted an STI8 IC to my classic - what a difference! Will need some pursuading to go back to atmos DVs.
