Thinking of buying a 2001 WRX

Alright all, have been offered an ex. company car Subaru Impreza WRX and know next to nothing about them. Are there any specific points to watch, and any idea on the normal selling price? Have looked through the trader but never know whether people actually get these prices.

UK WRX car
2001 (X reg)
Red (metallic I think)
Bug eye version (if that is the one with the round lights)
100k
2 owners (1st for 8k, 2nd did the rest)
Cross drilled brakes option
Momo steering wheel option
Black cloth interior
Excellent condition inside and out, never crashed.
Full service history upto the last 2 minors.

Thanks for any comments.

What price are they looking for and what cars have you owned before matey? (What you think of it will depend on your perspective !).

The 100k mileage will drop the value somewhat.

With that mileage and model, its worth 6K tops :( To put it in perspective a guy is selling a 55 plate blobeye in the for sale part of SNET for less than £13K

Yep, was thinkin' aboot that too.

I've been offered the car for £5000. It's not my first choice Scooby so would have probably sold it on at some point then bought a sti or something without the bobbly lights (what were they thinking?). The price is only really making me consider it so its only worth £6000 anyway then its probably not worth the hassle.

Btw, currently have a VR6 Corrado and before that have had various mk1 & 2 Golf GTi's, plus the odd audi / merc. Have really topped out with the Corrado as far as the affordably fast VW range goes I recon so looking for a new direction. Mate has recently bought a 280bhp import Impreza and that has got me thinking.

Your mates car will be quite a bit quicker. Price is good though. How much cash do you have to spend ?

Around 5k without selling the Corrado, question is do I buy the Scooby and see whether I like it, then shop it in and the Corrado then buy a better one? Are they generally easy to sell on or has the bobly eyes / insurance killed alot of the interest off?

Might be tougher to sell at 100,000 miles. Maybe better to trade in the Corrado against a lower mileage car ? How much do you reckon the Corrado is worth ?

The Corrado probably worth 4.5k to an enthuast, 1k trade. In no rush to get rid of it as its getting harder to find good ones all the time, and I don't want to regret selling it for something I'm not happy with.

I need to make a decision on the Scooby by friday, I know its high mileage but do they generally have any major issues at this age? Baring in mind I know who's had it for pretty much all of its life and it hasn't been thrashed, plus near enough FSH.

If I could at least get my money back on the Scooby if I didn't like it then its worth a go and I could keep the Corrado until I'm sure. Have test driven them, just never had one long enough for a real life test, lag through town, noise etc etc.
