remaps.....worth the ££££ ???????
i have a 99 classic, fully decatted, panel filter, leda coilovers, hi spec 4 pot conversion. question is, next upgrade would be a remap, im just up the road from andy f as i live in edinburgh and im tempted to get the car booked in but is it really worth £570 or so??? its a lot of cash, think im looking at 30-40 bhp and whatever torque figures are, what effect will it have on driveability, fuel economy, engine/parts longevity etc. opinion please on whether i should do it or not. cheers.

It is expensive but it does affect drivability and in my case fuel economy too.
The thing is, the car is mapped exactly right for all its 'bits' as it were. So you will end up with a very nice smooth power delivery and all the fuelling will be bang on for your cars setup, and that will make a difference. Although when i had my first remap i went from the standard 03 WRX to 270 bhp, the main difference for me was how smooth and nicer to drive it was. As an example, a good after effect was that in traffic, in first gear, crawling, etc, AFTER the remap the car was a pleasure. Before it would jerk, sometimes quite badly, but after it was superb. Smooth power delivery and really was good. But thats just my opinion. And remember this, if you use Andy Forrest, you will get your monies worth for sure! One of the best mappers around by far. |
one of the most value for money mods you can get. Andy fits and maps an apexi fc for £750 which is excellent considering the difference in drivability and available power/torque... engine longevity is helped as the engine is setup to run as safely as possible on road conditions....
Paul at zen is also highly regarded and provides a very good price also... they both prove how far you can go with a power Fc with the results they have on their own cars. |
I had mine done by Andy F.
worth every penny:thumb: |
apparently its the ecutek that would be fitted to my car, £500 plus vat. looks like ill have to start saving then.

-Ensure the car is running safely -Optimise the gains from your mods (you could expect around 270bhp and similar torque with your mods. -Improve off boost fuel economy -Improve drivability/power delivery If you've not already got one, I'd be investing in a knocklink. Ns04 |
Don't hesitate. Had mine done by Scoobyclinic. The headline power/torque figures are one thing but the difference in the way the car drives is possibly even more important. Feels crisp and light. Turbo lag much reduced and power feels instant when changing up. Fuel consumption is improved saving me about £200/yr, so will even pay for itself over 3-4 years..

It depends on your definition of "is it worth it" really.
If you consider the investment to be worth it only if you notice a massive increase in power figures on a rolling road run then probably not. But if your definition of worth is based upon knowing that your car is running safely, boosting correctly, fuelling correctly etc then the answer is yes. I have an MY00 which was running full decat, K&N filter and manual boost controller giving 1.2 bar of boost, with a Knocklink and Lambdalink for monitoring. I had the mbc removed and a Tek3 remap and was initially disappointed because I noticed no real increase in power. However, I now know that my car is running safely and correctly and the peace of mind in knowing that is worth more than an extra few bhp on a dyno sheet imho. |
worth every penny for driveability, ecomony, safety of engine and just plain old fashioned fun.
do it - you will not regret it. |

I went the Tek3 route because I was led to believe that once the ecu had been "unlocked" and the Ecutek license paid for (which is included in the £500-ish cost) then all future changes would cost around £150. This is not strictly true - minor map tweaks will cost around £150, but if you wish to make further mods you will have to pay for a full re-map (around £350).
Worth bearing in mind if you're planning further upgrades. |

Worth bearing in mind if you're planning further upgrades. Recently I had a car that had a 2.5 short engine fitted along with a monster turbo, injectors, headers and exhaust......same price....... oh and that particular car had also changed owners ! Andy |

Andy Will probably be giving you a ring soon then Andy as you did my original map and I have a couple of mods planned :norty: Lofty |

Andy I thought my second map would be cheaper, but i still got charged double your above price for a second map. Oh well, live and learn and all that. |
