Cambelt changed in May but needs another one !!
 

Hey Guys,

Well, regarding my post here:

I have just read the service history book and found that the cam belt was changed in may of this year by a garage near Broadstairs, Kent.
Seems they hadn't done it properly and as a result it now needs replacing (See pictures in the other thread).

I have been advised that the garage should sort or at least cover the cost of the new cam belt/Fitting under warranty - 12 months I am guessing. What are the chances of getting this done and if they refuse what should I do.

A quick look at the belt would indicate that something running on the back of the belt (the smooth side) has actually caused the damage. This is just a quick diagnosis by myself (been in the trade 17 years) and is not conclusive, but to sum up, if my diagnosis is correct, then you have very little chance of getting them to do it for free.

The thing that has done the damage should have been checked and adjusted when the new cambelt was fitted hence why I feel the Garage that fitted the belt should be liable because obviously they have'nt done the job correctly and as a result the blet is fubarrrreddd :(

Going to call trading standards Monday then give the Garage a call, will see what happens. :confused:

Not trying to stir it mate, but say for instance it was a seized pulley that has caused this, there is no way that it would have lasted 7,000 miles so it has likely seized much more recently (say no more than 500 miles).
Like I say, not trying to stir, just trying to give a mechanical objective view.

Understand what youre saying but was not the adjuster that was fitted wrong, it was the belt guide that is adjusted when the belt is fitted. Anyway will call them Monday and see what they say. Thanks for the advice.

The belt guides have not been adjusted correctly after the belt has been fitted. You should have a 1mm Gap +/- 0.5mm between the Belt and the Guides and the Retaining bolts should have Locktite on them to stop them
"backing"" out.

UPDATE

been on the phone this morning to the garage that originally replaced the cambelt and they have agreed to cover the cost of getting it sorted :) Very nice chap as well.

A local Garage is picking the Scoob up shortly and is going to do the work, along New tensioner etc so all looks like a happy ending (Fingers Crossed)

Update:

Just got my Scoob back, fitted with new tensioners, pulleys, idle pulleys and new belt. All paid for by the garage that originally fitted the new belt back in June. Thumbs up for the Garage for agreeing to cover the cost's. I am a happy puppy now and can stick the bits I have on for her.
