ECU W6 code
hi i own a 96 wrx wagon, I have fitted an hks induction kit and a magnex cat back system.I have just purchased an ecu with a mines chip which i have been told gains about 40 bhp.The code on the ecu is W6 .The code on my ecu is S5. which im told is 240 ps.
Has any one any ideas what bhp a W6 ecu is before it has been chipped. And will it be safe to run this on my car or would i have to uprate the fueling etc . Many thanks rR:confused: Russ:confused: |

W6 is from a 93wrx saloon rated as said above at 240ps But if you have a Mines chip you will need to get it checked out because the Mines have quite an aggressive map (fuelling mainly i think)

Ok thanks for your help.I should get it in the next couple of days .ill plug it in and see how it goes .prob get it rolling roaded too.

A few words of warning!
I assume you have a pre-facelift (96) japanese import WRX wagon. These cars were originally fitted with a TD04 turbo, rated at 220ps. The WRX saloon of the time were fitted with a TD05 turbo, rated at 260ps. The wagon may well have other differences in the engine spec. Of course, this doesn't mean you still have the original wagon engine or turbo in your car (they do get changed...) If the mine's chip is designed for a TD05/WRX saloon and you still have the wagon spec engine and turbo then the chip may be quite inappropriate for your car. That said... I've never heard of an S5 ecu before, which is another strange piece of this puzzle... |
Just to add - the mines chip has a very advanced ignition map & a high boost target, these coupled together could be an ideal recipe for DET especially on the standard slanty TMIC. If you decide to fit the ecu with the mines chip fitted get it checked asap for DET and fuelling as you could find yourself with a fubar engine ;)

Ah just had a look at my ecu thats on the car and it a 2s not a 5s. sorry.I looked up the vin number on the car and im lead to believe its a 240 ps ecu.

Aha!
The 2S ecu (AC741) I am quite familiar with. But it is bad news again I'm afraid... The 2S ecu is from a V3. You didn't tell us your wagon was a facelift model! The W6 won't fit I'm afraid - different set of pins and sockets. You'll find your ecu has three yellow plugs, and the W6 expects 4. Back to square one I'm afraid! Edit to add: I think 240ps for the 2S is about right. |
ah, not so good looks like ill be butting it back on ebay then .
cheers for yuor help. Russ |
