Just had a look at the condition of the tyres on the car, and the outside edges of the fronts are severely worn compared to the rest of the tread. I've done about 5K on a set of 215-45-17's

Is this normal wear for these tyres due to rubber compound or could it be the result of another problem ?

mine wear on outside edges too, tho' they dont last 5k!

i thought i was just going round corners too fast!

Nearside front edge always went off first (roundabout tyre)with my Toyos
Otherside normally lasts as long as all the others, as long as they are rotated at half wear stage.

But not after 5k . Guess it depends on what type of roads you do most of your driving on, but it sound like tracking or camber problem could be accelerating wear

I was advised (by another Impreza driver) to up the pressure in the Toyos to 36/34psi.

At this pressure they still give a better ride than the OEM tyres but don't deflect as much when cornering - hence better turn-in and more even wear across the tread.... apparently

Crank the tyre pressure up, I had to run the Toyos at 38/36.5 to sort of even out the wear rate, they are very soft, but good :)

Get your dealer to check camber and toe-in settings.

I have a MY00 bought from new. At 5k, I noticed uneven wear on the front insides. I got the dealer to setup the suspension "correctly" (apparently this is not on the PDI and the factory suspension setup can be out). Since then tyre wear has been even. If you have suspension that's been changed for the Prodrive setup or bumpsteer, then these might lead to uneven tyre wear. Checkout the sidc faq - http://www.sidc.co.uk/faq.htm#4.5
